    EC has no vision

    News, Postbag, Published on 28/03/2019

» A conscientious Election Commission would have counted the 1,500 ballots from New Zealand that arrived at their precincts after ballot counting had begun.True, the law allows for them to not be counted, but a duty-bound, proactive EC would have noted that the ballots' delay was not any fault of the voters, nor had they been tampered with en route.

    'Built to burn'

    News, Postbag, Published on 18/04/2019

» Re: "#Pray for Notre Dame", (BP, April 16). I join the rest of the world in weeping for the disastrous Notre Dame fire -- but The New York Times reported that Vincent Dunn, a fire consultant and former New York City fire chief, said "These cathedrals and houses of worship are built to burn. If they weren't houses of worship, they'd be condemned."

    Plundered budget

    News, Postbag, Published on 17/05/2019

» Since the start of the coup and Thailand's dictatorial control, the national budget has been plundered by the military. With so many social pressures supposedly causing the need for a coup, the dictator and his underlings have seen it fit to purchase submarines, tanks, military aircraft, and now Stryker armoured vehicles. How do these expenditures truly serve the people?

    No foresight

    News, Postbag, Published on 18/06/2019

» It was disappointing to read "Single-ticket Bangkok public transport pushed back to 2020", (BP, June 16). Bangkok has a mostly functional, and rapidly expanding, public transport system, yet it lags so very far behind other large cities in the implementation of very basic technology to allow passengers to use one card (or device) to travel on the entire network.

» Another totally useless committee has been established. This body, according to local media reports, is to lecture about the prevention of forest fires and indiscriminate burning.

    Thank you, 'Mali San'

    News, Postbag, Published on 24/08/2019

» We Thais owe many, many thanks to "Mali-San" or Ms Megumi Morimoto, 46, a freshman at Kasetsart University's Sakolnakorn campus. As shown by the clip on Facebook by Udomsak Nak-chang-in and on television, she's been blocking motorcyclists from illegally riding their bikes on the sidewalk at Rumsalee intersection, thus protecting pedestrians from being run over. She's done this over 100 times. Although local bikers have beaten her up four times, Thai onlookers have rescued her.

    Check his credentials

    News, Postbag, Published on 14/09/2019

» Re: "Thamanat wins PM's backing", (BP, Sept 11). As a reformist, Prime Minister Pra-yut Chan-o-cha should quickly verify Deputy Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Capt Thamanat Prompow's claims that he didn't (a) plead guilty to charges of drug trafficking in Australia and (b) didn't serve a four-year jail sentence for his crime, thus disqualifying him from office.
