    Democratic justice

    News, Postbag, Published on 13/04/2019

» I wish to thank the 12 diplomats and their respective democratic countries for finally supporting the Thai people. Foreign Affairs Minister Don Pramudwinai's comment, "It's an intervention in our justice system" is a joke. Without a truly democratically elected government there is no justice.

    Bad flood dreams

    News, Postbag, Published on 20/05/2017

» Not surprisingly the better part of Bangkok flooded during the heavy rain in the early morning of May 16 and it looks like the BMA once again was caught off guard. We live in the Bang Na area just opposite Central City and since the last rainy season ended all the equipment used to pump out water has just been left without any sign of regular maintenance. Suddenly required, the BMA will have to get hold of technicians, required spares, operators, etc.

    Perils of police reform

    News, Postbag, Published on 08/07/2017

» I'm glad that PM Prayut Chan-o-cha is reforming the police at long last, but he shouldn't reinvent the wheel. In 2006, then-prime minister Gen Surayud Chulanont, former army chief and member of our beloved King Rama IX's Privy Council, appointed retired Pol Gen Vasit Dejkunjorn, former chief of police, to head a distinguished commission for this very purpose.

    Very slow learners

    News, Postbag, Published on 09/09/2017

» In his Sept 8 letter Songdej Praditsmanon writes that student Netiwit Chotiphatphaisal "was already condemned by fair-minded individuals and cursed by many alumni" but what he doesn't explain is why. To some of us simple minded non-Chula graduates it appears that Mr Netiwit has clearly understood the message from King Rama V given in 1873 when he expressed "the necessity of rebuilding a more equal relationship between different groups in society". What isn't apparent is that the administrators running the university have understood this message and taken steps to advance these opinions.

» Even though I am a part-time resident of this beautiful country, I feel an urge to speak about the role by the present government to protect the wishes of a majority of Thai people who just want a better life.
