More than meets the eye

For my previous story, I visited Ang Thong's Wiset Chaichan district and went to Wat Muang to pay respect to the 95m-tall Luang Pho Yai, the largest seated Buddha sculpture in the country.

Nakhon Phanom: More than meets the eye

» The public space along the Mekong in the town of Nakhon Phanom was quite bright. It was illuminated by the yellow light of street lamps and colourful decorative lights to celebrate Christmas and the New Year. The ambience highly contrasted with the other side of the river, a quiet scene of the reserved forest of the Phou Hin Poun National Protected Area in Khammouane Province in Laos.

» The pictures of people kayaking and paddle boarding along Klong Ong Ang were still vivid in my memory. The activity was organised in the middle of this month to promote the canal makeover as well as Klong Ong Ang Walking Street. The photos triggered me to visit the site to see if the canal's water was clean enough for people to kayak or if I could find anyone doing so during my visit last Saturday.

» The gold Buddha sculpture stands handsomely on top of Phu Khok Ngio (also spelled Phu Khok Ngiew) hill in Loei's Chiang Khan district. Before the image is a newly-built glass-floored skywalk, set up on a bank of the confluence of the Hueang and Mekong rivers.
