All hail the king of fruits

Life, Onsiri Pravattiyagul, Published on 19/06/2015

» For many, it's a slice of heaven that titillates the palette and teases the senses. But for many others, it reeks of death, and those in possession should immediately be quarantined.

    Entertaining the masses

Life, Onsiri Pravattiyagul, Published on 18/06/2015

» Steve Aoki didn't seem to be in the best of moods prior to his sold out headline show for Together Festival in Bangkok last month. He appeared to be in a heated argument with his manager, but for sake of politeness, we tried our hardest not to listen.

    Soundtrack to a generation

Life, Onsiri Pravattiyagul, Published on 04/06/2015

» I still remember the day Bodyslam walked into the Post's offices to promote their eponymous debut album in 2002. I was a rookie, and so were Artiwara Kongmalai, Tanadol Changsawek and Rattapol Phanchet. As I recall, they were awkward, gangly and didn't quite grasp the entire concept of a press tour. They were young men who had recently given up careers (in more respectable fields) to pursue their musical dreams. In retrospect, all the fidgeting and slight cockiness was well placed and self explanatory.

» It all started with a boy band. Danny O'Donoghue and Mark Sheehan, childhood friends, were once in Irish boy band Mytown, but with the help of Glen Power on drums, awoke from their adolescent dream to form the popular pop rock band The Script.

Life, Onsiri Pravattiyagul, Published on 12/05/2015

» With blue streaks in her long, lush blonde hair, Jackie Evancho looks more like a typical 15-year-old trying to figure out a way through her teenage years than a global singing sensation.

Life, Onsiri Pravattiyagul, Published on 08/05/2015

» Backstreet Boys' youngest member Nick Carter, 35, urged the Thai crowd to "act like you're 15" on Wednesday night. There wasn't any need for Carter to offer such  encouragement because all 35 year-olds present at Backstreet Boys' "In a World Like This" tour behaved exactly like that.

    Holding Sway

Life, Onsiri Pravattiyagul, Published on 28/04/2015

» The year was 1993. Thailand was buzzing with grunge and Britpop. Local independent musicians broke away from major labels' formulaic, conveyor belt music, and started to experiment with alternative rock sounds.

    Break on through

Life, Onsiri Pravattiyagul, Published on 28/04/2015

» For Thai musicians, breaking into the international market is a coveted goal. Much like with any other area of popular culture, the influences, imprints, looks and inspirations of contemporary Thai music largely come from other parts of the world — especially the West. A Thai touch is often then placed into the mix.

    Uploading the Korean dream

Life, Onsiri Pravattiyagul, Published on 27/03/2015

» Nathamon "Nutty" Kongjak was only seven minutes late, but she apologised profusely, to the point of mutual embarrassment. For a net idol with 3 million followers, and a budding artist who has just released an album in Korea, Power Of Nutty, there's something disarming about Nathamon, especially when the general consensus of net idols and K-pop stars tends to lean on the negative side.
