Riding high in the simulated Wild West
Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 05/12/2016
» Looking all parts American perfection and stomaching spicy dishes surprisingly well (according to his bodyguard) for a first-timer in Singapore, James Marsden was in the Lion City last week to promote the season finale of HBO's Westworld. As the human equivalent of goodness and sunshine, it becomes apparent that the Hollywood dreamboat is fittingly well-known for his nice-guy roles (in X-Men, The Notebook, Enchanted, Hairspray) because he is also such a person in real life. In fact, it all feels satisfyingly in-character when the 43-year-old admits that he loves Frank Capra movies and that the violence in Westworld isn't gratuitous.

Cool before cool

» If you ask Torsit Sarisdiwongse how long he has been with Greyhound Café, he will jokingly answer: "Since the day they planted the pillars down in Emporium." This is the very man who has perfected the recipes of hip fusion dishes such as salmon sashimi in hot spicy sauce or fried rice with pla salid 20 years ago -- long before cool and trendy proliferated Thailand's dining scene.

» Even if you don't go with the fashion or art crowd, there's still a big chance that there is a Niagara of polka-dotted selfies all over your social media feed -- and this will probably continue until Sept 3.

Mumraisin.com and the new parent
Muse, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 01/07/2017
» How Pimpisa "Pear" Chirathivat compartmentalises her life is astonishing. Although she is better known as a Central heiress and part of the A-list set regularly seen at the biggest events and parties about town, the freshly appointed business development executive at Post International Media is also the force behind the newly launched website Mumraisin.com, a one-stop destination that's out to catch all the cool mums of Thailand. Filled with pastel-hued photos and cute illustrations exclusively drawn for the site, Mumraisin packages content about parenting, children, pregnancy and lifestyle into an attractive, easy-to-read manner for the hip parents of now.

Killing me softly
Muse, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 10/12/2016
» There's something simple, but exceedingly special about Tawjan Catherine Punyasingh's recently released cookbook Great Food Good Fest. A quick skim through would evoke the same reflex of going "awww" at dog pictures, except there are squid and salted egg lava buns in these pictures, instead. Something about it just warms your heart and fills you with a pressing urge to get up to make these dishes, even if you are the type that couldn't cook to save yourself. Perhaps it is the book's realistic nature, and as we meet at her home, she whips up a strawberry hazelnut chocolate tart and pumpkin and corn croquette for us -- something even the most hopeless can make this holiday season.

Expanding borders

» The mention of Ladurée conjures up pastel-tinted dreams of magnificent macarons and dainty desserts all in a Rococo fairy tale ambience. Men who need a real meal may dismiss it as a French bonbon, but be reluctant no more -- the tearoom has just recently celebrated its launch of a dining menu, with savoury delicacies that will fill you up the way a proper meal should. For an establishment better known for their sweets, Ladurée Salon De Thé offers quite a few surprises up its lacy sleeves: this being an immensely fresh produce and influences beyond French fare touching on some dishes.

A world without newspapers
Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 01/08/2016
» Our HR guy tells the straying university students that have a field trip to our office that the future of newspapers could possibly include aromas and 3D. Actually, the latter part already came into fruition with one of our wrap ads, where 3D glasses also were included with the paper for readers to see a particular image. This wasn't a gimmick to bring their attention back to the podium, but a genuine sense of hope, with perhaps a dash of fantasy, that something of the sort would materialise one day. It sounds like a Roald Dahl daydream, but I myself couldn't help but to imagine along how wondrous it would be if I could actually inhale the aroma of the reviewed dishes while reading Friday's food reviews.

Blue goes pink for charity
Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 16/10/2015
» There's only good that can come out of eating for a cause. For the third year, Blue Elephant once again turns on their pink lights that beautifully splashes onto their century-old building on South Sathon to raise awareness for breast cancer. Throughout October, an a la carte "Pink Ribbon Menu" will be on offer, for both lunch and dinner, with proceeds from the menu benefiting Thai women in need at the Queen Sirikit Centre for Breast Cancer (QSCBC).
