» There’s nothing groundbreaking about ocean or floral prints for the summer, but at least you can never go wrong with them. » Fatbird celebrates its first anniversary this month, after a year of establishing itself as another hangout for the cool peeps of Soi Ari. The curious name of the place reflects how the owners view themselves, especially their passion for travelling (unsettled hopping around) and their interest in finding and trying out new dishes. That being said, much of the menu here consists of Western comfort food, with a few Thai titbits thrown into the mix.

» The little lady dressed in an androgynous total look of denim and minimal make-up, who happens to be the designer and founder of new fashion label Commit a Sin, has to get a few seconds of shut-eye every so often during the interview to recollect her train of thought. It can only be expected, as Pattamon “Jan” Taechanarong has been up until 5am preparing and getting the last things in place for her upcoming fashion show. Yet, she hardly minds the physical and mental strain that comes with the workload of her new business.

» It's no surprise that the yakuza and all the culture that comes with them are the main inspiration for flamboyant fashion brand Anchavika. Those familiar with the local brand are more than likely aware that Anchavika is in no way a discreet luxury, with its trademark loud embroidery motifs and borderline over-the-top materials that bombard onlookers with an equal sense of admiration and bewilderment.

» Looking for that ultimate piece of swimwear that's built to last but can't seem to find any? While racks and racks of bikinis and women's swimwear have flooded the market, it seems to be the opposite for men. Gents are just not as spoiled for choice when it comes to resort wear, but, with Vilebrequin's first flagship store having recently opened at EmQuartier, that's all about to change.

    Go for a Burton

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 30/04/2015

» Most Thai people probably own no less than one article of clothing from the Jaspal empire, and the name Arcadia Group has the same effect in the United Kingdom. This multinational retail giant is behind high-street names that literally fill a British consumer's wardrobe, owning globally popular brands Topshop, Topman, Miss Selfridge, Wallis and Dorothy Perkins. Central Marketing Group has brought this whole high-street haven to Thai fashionistas, with its latest import being Burton — a menswear line that has offered quality suits since its inception in 1903.

» Check in to Sretsis's latest branch at The EmQuartier for a shopping experience that recreates vibes from the brand's first international flagship in Tokyo, Sretsis Inn. Decked out with gold accents, classic striped sofas and dark mahogany, this corner at the Qurator Zone brings you back to hotels of yesteryear, with clothing racks that look like bellboy trolleys and display cases that epitomise revolving doors. Upon entering, you will be greeted by a concierge desk, fully decorated with a classy, wood panelled façade. Mannequins at the revolving doors are wearing the latest and hottest pieces from the collection — the current being "The Runway Rum: Rock-A-Loha Summer Love".  Launched at this branch before all other stores, this summer collection is where Madonna-esque motifs meets Hawaiian frills. Think hot-pink and neon colours, topped with super-loud plastic accessories. Music notes and piano keys are some of the delicate details this season; hemlines are decorated with irresistibly eye-catching bars of notes. The standout zippers, a well-circulated fashion element from the kitschy decade, also scream 80s rock.
