    A show of strength

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 16/09/2022

» Over the past few years, American superheroes have dominated the movies in cinemas and series on various streaming services. That is likely to continue since Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe consists of planned releases in 2023 and 2024, while DC Extended Universe also has at least five films to be released next year. Last month, a reboot of the Red Eagle, perhaps Thailand's best-known superhero, was also announced for a planned release in 2024. Guru thinks home-grown heroes need long overdue love from us, so here are some of the memorable ones for your reading pleasure.

    You're just a big kid!

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 13/01/2017

» It's okay to be a kid every now and then. By that, we don't mean asking your parents for permission to go out, throwing a tantrum when you don't get what you want or picking your nose and eating the booger either. Eww.

    Star of the soi

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 27/06/2014

» Like a woman wearing a white t-shirt in the rain, Prawn Star might make you stop and stare. It’s basically a kitchen on wheels that can be towed around by a vehicle. You may assume from its tininess that the two-month-old soi-side eatery offers only simple quick-to-make food but it actually delivers seafood specialties you would expect from a proper restaurant. Perch on a cardboard cylinder next to the kitchen/shop so you can people-watch and check out the chef in action. There are tables for two along the alley but they aren’t ideal if you plan to order several dishes. If you come in a group, we suggest a small room at Minidish Cafe at the back of the alley where more comfy seats and air conditioning await. Patrons of Prawn Star can sit at the cafe without extra charge. The customers here are mostly Khao San tourists while Thais make up the minority.
