    Pre-Marital Sex. - Part I.

By Anonymous, Created on: 18/06/2003, Last updated on: 26/04/2007

» Hello Mr. Rooster ; I moved this discussion to this more appropriate thread. Mr. Rooster wrote : "People are like animals, and their sexual drives will involve some types of pre-marital sex. So prostitution will be there to provide needed service. " The sexual urge is indeed extraordinarily powerful,...

    • Anonymous commented : Well, it does have a century old simple answer. Societies will have to accept legalization of prostitution. Legalization will mean that it will have to be regulated by governmental standards. The services should be safe and clean to both the workers and customers. Religions and individual moral standards do not have any answer to this social problem that you have mentioned, so they should keep their moral standard to themselves. I see prostitution as a regulated profession that would help reduce or eliminate STDs' and crimes against women and girls.

    British Embassy in Bangkok

By Anonymous, Created on: 05/10/2004, Last updated on: 25/02/2011

» In March, my Thai partner wanted to visit me in London. Before granting a visa, the Embassy wanted a mountain of paperwork including proof of my income, whether or not I woned my own home and a whole lot of other things. At this stage, I have to say that we have many controversial issues in the UK...

    • Anonymous commented : To Richard Applin (who wrote above) Richard, while I am not as insecure as you to go to great lengths to convince readers how educated my partner and I are and that I did not marry a sex industry worker, I can confirm I am in a similar situation. The British Embassy treated my wife and I with such contempt it was unbelievable. We supplied ALL documents requested by the embassy and even had them verified by managers at a well known Thai bank. The staff who dealt with us were rude and cynical beyond belief. As just one example, the staff took a letter that our condo owner had been kind enough to write, looked up at us and said "you know we get a lot of fakes like this". There is NO excuse for treating people like this. So it is not just a case of you being so much better than other applicants, it would appear you got lucky. The staff seem to be very rude to a wide range of applicants. Besides, even in cases where the applicants are a young Thai woman and an older "farang", as long as the marriage is legal and documents can be surprised it is not the right or responsibility or even the business of the staff to judge their application on that. Their sole duty and power is to make a decision based on criteria specified by the British Foreign Office. If staff cannot do that objectively, they should not be employed.

    Last one in, again

» Never in Thai history has a story that didn't happen so dominate the news and clearly emerge as the Technology Story of the Year; just before the New Year, your TOT flipped a switch that started providing bandwidth of the third-generation kind in a couple of obscure corners of Bangkok, but in truth, 2009 was the year that Laos and Cambodia totally humiliated the telecoms state enterprises by leaving Thailand a far, distant last among Asian countries providing 3G service to yuppiephone subscribers.

» Wikileaks workers were in open revolt after the, well, revolting charges of sexual harassment or worse by Swedish women against Julian Assange, and could try to oust the Australian founder of the controversial web service; even Assange's son turned against him, saying on Facebook that Daddy "does have a way of making a lot of female enemies"; charges by the women included that he refused to wear a condom during sex and refused to take an STD test; Swedish police continue to investigate the allegations.

Choosing cheap Chinese Products over Thai jobs

By needchange, Created on: 17/10/2010, Last updated on: 24/11/2015

» Everyone knows the story of what has been happening in the US in terms of the trade deficit with China. If you go to Walmart, almost every product sold there comes from China. Walmart is America's biggest retailer if I'm correct. The trend is the same at many other retailers around the country. So...

    • bew commented : I agree with K.Drake on the lack of visionary leaders in Thailand and K.Needchange on regulation. The problem isn't the regulation per se, but is the consistence of law enforement. The enforcement in environmental regulation at Map Ta Phut is stricted, while in the other area is very lax. The law enforcement is quite selective. Why China stays ahead of India & Mexico was a topic for discussion in my class yesterday. I've been to all these three countries. For Mexican case, higher cost of labour as a result of NAFTA and product quality as a result of poorly trained human resources and Mañana mentality are main factors. For Indian case, very poor quality in work and lack of time-conciousness probably owing to many religious festival in India. The high in English of Indian people doesn't guarantee product quality and punctuality. You can see difference in work quality between Indian & Chinese construction workers in Singapore. Investment in human resource is very important, but only leaders who have a strategic vision can see this. Let me predict the future of Thailand: 1.Low-skill Thai workers will lose their jobs forever. Only few of them go back to rice paddy field. 2.Thailand will have by both hi-tech & low-tech products from China forever. Owing to cost, Thailand can't compete with China for low-tech products. Owing to technological development, Thailand can't compete with China for hi-tech products. The advantage of China's economy of scale over Thailand's one will be a decisive factor. 3.Thailand will rely on tourism based on Art/Craft/Agricultural Cottage until this industry is insustainable. 4.Sex industry will prosper & last forever, as low-skilled female workers can't find any other jobs.
