» The thing about the Sretsis fashion brand is that they are not only lauded for their clothes but also for magnificent retail spaces that make a trip to their stores a dreamy visit to the galaxy of Victorian fairy tales, among other fanciful backdrops. As the brand's universe has creatively widened in the past few years, the name has grown to encompass food and beverage (a fine tea parlour), home décor (wallpaper with fantastical beasts) and dining ware (ceramic unicorn candle holders). Earlier this month, the three Sukhahuta sisters unveiled a home -- completely fashioned in the Sretsis style -- for anyone who wants to live in the whimsical flair the brand is so well known for.

» Education and morality are not a given duo package. It infuriates me to write this, but apparently, having a good education by no means ensures that a person will turn out to have more-or-less sound morals. Which is ironic, because shouldn't all that education have gotten it across somewhere that paying for your education bills is what makes for some of the most basic requirements to being a decent human being?

» Liam Cunningham is quite a funny bunny -- a stark opposite of the character he is best known for portraying: Game Of Thrones' dependably virtuous knight, Ser Davos Seaworth. While in Bangkok earlier this month, he unflinchingly munched the head off fried insects at the street stall and gleefully admitted to nicking tiny props from the set every year, be it the small wooden stag or coins from Braavos. He asks the props man first of course, and most of it ends up on his daughter's "wall of awesome" in her bedroom.

» The design director of Studio Act of Kindness could easily pass for a fashion darling -- with his brand of photographs that flaunt a dark and broody kind of good looks. But just as synonymous with his clouded stares and modelesque poses are a backdrop of amazing spaces with stylish furnishings -- many of which are locations he has had a hand in designing. His latest creation where we meet is a welcome illusory; Track17 is a bar made to look like a Euro-riche train bogey, proper sombre in its woodwork and brimming with trinkets of a bygone Victorian era.

Having garnered popularity for her books about a Greek adventurer turned prime counsellor to King Narai -- Constantine Phaulkon -- her latest historical outing puts readers in the shoes of a young Brit-French belle who witnesses the intriguing games of colonial powerplay between the French and British in Siam in the late 1800s. Revolving around events that led to the Paknam Incident during the Franco-Siamese War, this book is a blend of fact and fiction that comes to life thanks to the author's scrupulous research in academic books, biographies and French diplomatic archives.
