    Orchestra on The Beach at Cha-Am

    » The Cha-Am Municipality invited an international orchestra from the Fine Arts Department of Thailand to provide a free musical performance on the beach on 16th August 2013. The opening  of the concert was performed by the Mayor of Cha-Am Mr. Nukul Pornsomboonsiri.

    Hua Hin Sport Day 2013

    » Hua Hin Municipality is hosting the Hua Hin Sports Day 2013 from 2nd to 7th September 2013, featuring various kinds of sport, including basketball, takraw, badminton, pétanque, aerobic dance, football and traditional Thai games.  This will be held at a variety of venues in Hua Hin such as the Hua Hin Municipal School, Phon Kingphet Memorial Park, Queen Sirikit’s Memorial Park and Hua Hin School.

    Bullying goes ballistic

    » A 10-year-old student bullied a kindergarten pupil, forcing the younger girl to eat faeces and toilet cleaner at their Najomtien school. The incident arose when the three-year-old was unable or unwilling to provide the older girl with “protection money.” The father and grandmother of the abused child took her to hospital for x-rays and treatment. Parents of the 10-year-old said their daughter had not shown violent tendencies at home, but they apologized for the grisly incident. The abusing child has since been moved from the school. The Ministry of Social Development announced that the school in question had been ordered to put CCTV cameras in some classrooms and in the restrooms at the front and back of the building.

    Sexual violation a dire problem

    » <p>Deputy mayor Weerawut Kharkai hosted a conference on sexual abuse and human trafficking with guest speakers from the Ministry of Justice. Speakers at Pattaya School Number 7 explained that many Thai boys and girls are naïve and easily tricked into sexual exploitation and disgrace which is a problem for all society. Attorney-at-law Kreangsak Sintaveepermpoon said that an increasing number of girls under the age of consent are becoming pregnant and seeking abortions. Both boys and girls are being led into selling drugs, offering prostitution and recording obscene video clips which can end up on the internet. The attorney concluded that a massive education program was urgently needed in local schools to offset the tide of scandal and cynicism.</p>

    Mental health under threat

    » City Hall hosted a public awareness event at Pattaya school number 11 to pinpoint the various threats to the health and well-being of today’s youngsters. Topics included poverty, aggression, family conflicts, alcohol and substance abuse, and physical disability. Lecturer Pongsak Tungkana said that education in school should supplement parental advice about the social problems affecting many children.

    Teens caught after snatch and grab

    » Two 16 year old youths who were enrolled at a famous Pattaya school were arrested in the vicinity of the Land Office, Suksabai Villa, after being found in possession of a woman’s hand bag with 200 baht inside.  The victim of an assault Miss Phanida said two men on a motorbike had snatched her belongings as she was driving along in a peaceable manner.  The youths in question said they were very sorry for the offence but were disappointed that the theft resulted in so few gains.  They had hoped for a more substantial haul.
