What's in a Thai name?

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 02/11/2018

» One aspect about Thai culture that many visitors may be curious about or find fascinating is how we are named, as there seem to be some unwritten rules governing it. This week, I would like to shed some light on this unique aspect of Thai culture while airing my grievances with my fellow Thais who have encountered incidents regarding their names. Our struggle is real.

    One on one with Eleven

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 28/06/2019

» A bazillion of suspicious rats. More of Eleven's nose bleeding and superpower. Mike smooching with El. Will's ongoing connection to The Upside Down. Something that caused Dustin to go, "Holy Mother of God". A new mall where you have fun and also hide from monsters (as you do). And Billy's mullet. These are just some of the strange things coming to Hawkins in the third season of Stranger Things. (see what I did?)

This was the second time the world renowned French chef and MasterChef Asia judge created special dinner for Pimalai and this collaboration will become an annual event onwards. We simply couldn't refuse an opportunity to chat with him.

Let's Judge Candidates by Their Posters Pt.2

» The campaign posters are EVERYWHERE. You either dodge them while navigating your way on a Bangkok sidewalk (of lack thereof it) or scroll down your Facebook newsfeed and see like seven of them without even trying.

    Doodler dream

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 01/02/2019

» They say a picture is worth 1,000 words but perhaps this classic idiom needs an update. Let's go with, "a Line sticker is worth 1,000 words and some cash too if you know how to make them". Mouthful, I know, but read on and all will become clear.

    'Tis the season to give

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 21/12/2018

» Christmas Day is just a couple of days away. While Santa is coming to town and you're unsure if you're on his naughty or nice list, there are many kind activities in Bangkok you can do to ensure you'll be in his good graces. Instead of spelling them out, I decide to turn them into a little fun game inspired by Monopoly. May the nicest person win!

» The school fees mum and dad do pay,
so I'd better get some damn good grades,
But some of those teachers they scold, so grey,
or like to throw things in my face.

    Pizza from a conveyor belt

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 28/10/2016

» The setting: Yep, you read that right. Someone did something quite mind-blowing by bringing together the sushi conveyor belt and pizza. It's perhaps a world's first too. Pizza King, which shares the same address with Limoncello in Thong Lor Soi 9, serves up pizza toppings on the conveyor belt to let you choose what you want to have on your very own Italian-style pizza. Whether you want to describe this unique restaurant as "kaiten-pizza", "rotation pizza" or a "pizza-go-round", the good news is that the main ingredient isn't a pure gimmick.

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 17/06/2016

» Eric Tobua can craft headdresses that literally turn heads. Not many people know about the 33-year-old stylist yet but we think they should. He's an avant-garde milliner who has created elaborate, one-of-a-kind and OMG-what-is-that headdresses for runways, fashion shoots, and concerts. He has styled fashion shoots for many Thai fashion magazines. His haute headpieces have also been featured at both past Wonderfruit Festivals and will be again at its third edition in Dec. This Khon Kaen native showcases his conversation starting pieces via his personal IG (@erictobua) and work IG (@erictobuastudio) accounts.
