Life, Catherine Faulder, Published on 28/01/2016

» Chirapan Oulapathorn, founder and president of Sumipol Corp -- a company that makes high quality industrial tools and represents over 50 Japanese manufacturers in Thailand -- sits serenely in the sitting room of his second home in Suphan Buri. At last, his busy week has slowed down. He has managed to escape to the dream he started building more than 20 years ago under the architectural excellence of Assoc Prof Theeramon Wairojanakit, the Dean of Architecture at King Mongkut Institute of Technology (Lardkrabang).

    Simply sweeter in Singapore

Guru, Catherine Faulder, Published on 09/09/2016

» Chang recently launched its first global initiative to bring Thai food to the world. LUCKY world. "Chang Sensory Trails", curated by LA-based Chef Jet Tila, Thailand's Culinary Ambassador to the USA, featured a selection of mouthwatering dishes triggered from memories of his time spent in Thailand. The inaugural event was held in Singapore at the Bay Front Event Space last month and was set in a multi-sensorial playground amid music, lighting and what else, of course, but copious amounts of Chang beer. Guru was more than happy to join in on all the festivities and flavours.

    It's CHOW-time!

Guru, Catherine Faulder, Published on 16/09/2016

» The setting: You may have been looking for an excuse to visit that swanky new hotel that opened a couple of months ago at the end of Thong Lor. Well, CHOW Café and Bar provides you with the perfect opportunity. Situated right next to the Metropole, the casual dining destination's warm wooden interior, high ceilings and open kitchen is so inviting you might not want to leave. As an establishment that aims to be open longer than it's closed, you can find yourself doing one of many things at CHOW, from eating a 4am breakfast, sipping Parisian cocktails late afternoon, to watching a late night movie on the big screen in its second larger dining area. The walls are decked with local contemporary art that's so edgy and eye-catching so it's just got everything going for it really. #lovethisplace.

    Pattaya delights in Bangkok

Guru, Catherine Faulder, Published on 16/09/2016

» Devarana Spa is offering a new "creative spa retreat" package, Pattaya Delight, consisting of little elements that remind us of the unique seaside town not too far from Bangkok. We know, of all the places one could pick to base a two-hour spa treatment on, we also wondered why the high end hotel spa decided to choose Pattaya as a source for its inspiration. Before entering the room, you are offered a welcome drink to calm and cool yourself from the Bangkok heat -- some hibiscus juice or nam krajiab. We had two cups of the stuff it was so good.

    Kiki Made some bomb munchies

Guru, Catherine Faulder, Published on 30/12/2016

» I came across Kiki Made's booth about a year ago at a Kolour In The Park do and I remember being so blown away; usually at music festivals you'll get some really unhealthy food that just adds to that awful hangover you really don't need. But there was Kiki, a vision, handing out bowls of goodness that made many tummies sing. So, when I heard she had finally opened up a bowl bar in Ekamai at the Light Room -- a whitewashed room with tall ceilings, white painted bar stools and white mannequin heads and torsos dotted behind the bar -- I went. Immediately.

    The power of rice

Guru, Catherine Faulder, Published on 30/12/2016

» My mother used to tell me to put sake on my face as it was just as good, if not better -- and cheaper -- than the expensive La Mer products she'd always bought previously.

    For regal palates

Guru, Catherine Faulder, Published on 03/02/2017

» The setting: There's a sacred ruby of a restaurant tucked away in the deep depths of Sukhumvit Soi 13, officially housed within the Radisson Suites but, on approach, it looks grand enough to be a stand-alone. A royal blue awning, pressed with the golden crest of Punjab Grill's internationally recognised lion covers the arched wooden doors. When you step through, a world of class and elegance cascades over you; the interior exudes a warm and contemporary atmosphere that somehow mixes in a "British India" colonial feel; warm wooden floors, red tints, high ceilings, long golden curtains and of course, a Chesterfield sofa form parts of the magnificent whole. You won't feel cooped up in here, that's for sure. There's an open kitchen featuring three authentic copper and clay tandoor ovens.

    Healthy cravings

Guru, Catherine Faulder, Published on 03/03/2017

» We swung by Daily Fix one busy Wednesday lunchtime at Central World, in dire need of something healthy. Too many coffees, cha yens and French fries had taken over our diets. Daily Fix marks the perfect stop for fast food that doesn't forget about or fall short in proper nutrition. From smoothies, salads and adaptations of Thai favourites to hearty protein-laden meals and build-your-own-fixes, if you're someone who cares about what they're putting into their body, then this is the place you should be going to. Plus, if you work in the area, this option is far better than sitting at your desk and stuffing your face with 7-Eleven salapao or cheese toasties. You *do* want to live longer, right?

    Are those abs you're cooking?

Guru, Catherine Faulder, Published on 07/04/2017

» We were really excited when we heard about Energy Kitchen, a brand new lunch delivery service offering nutritious alternative meals for all of Bangkok's health freaks. Don't you just get tired of all the MSG, sugar, oil and additives that you are ingesting into your body every lunchtime, or any meal time, during the week? Yeah, those meals taste so darn good, but they leave you feeling so darn awful. And, the better they taste, the more suspicious you should be we reckon, especially when it comes to a lot of the Thai food being served out there. #msgcentral

    Green and energised

Guru, Catherine Faulder, Published on 12/05/2017

» Our kitchen supplies were running low on the good ol' healthy stuff so we decided to make a trip to this green grocery store and cafe, Ingreendient, a name we'd heard gleefully come out the mouths of many in recent months. The universe was obviously telling us to go check it out, so we did.
