The many condominium, villa and hotel developments on the island open up opportunities for investors to cater to tourists' requirements, and there is still potential for growth. This is especially true for community malls, or lifestyle shopping complexes in areas that are crowded with tourists such as Bangtao, Surin, Kamala and Patong beaches. This trend also suits developers and retailers who are looking for smaller, more manageable projects targeted to specific catchment areas.
