It's also home to a variety of homegrown talent be it in the entertainment industry or elsewhere. Sure, you can probably name a bunch off the top of your head that people go gaga for right here in the country, but there's also a number of them who are pretty well-known internationally, some of whom you may not be aware of. » When the 11th White Elephant Art Award announced its theme "Endless Giving", people in Thailand were facing a difficult time due to lockdown measures to control the spread of Covid-19. Artist Ananyot Jannual said it was so difficult to think about "endless giving" at that time because almost everyone was encountering difficulties of some sort due to the healthcare crisis. However, he came up with Palung Haeng Dok Tantawan (The Power Of The Sunflowers) and won first prize for his powerful oil and acrylic painting.

» As part of the 2021 UOB Painting of the Year (Thailand) competition, artists were allowed to create paintings without restrictions in terms of imagination and ingenuity since there was no specific theme. The results were rewarding. The winner of UOB Painting of the Year (Thailand) in the established artist category, Vachira Kornthong, created a mixed media on canvas painting, Land Of Happiness, which depicts the hidden beauty and abundant happiness found in nature. Land Of Happiness stood out with its use of vibrant colours combined with a fabric applique technique. The message of nature conservation that the artwork implies also touched viewers.

This year’s programme focuses on supporting the local art community and creative young minds to make their artistic mark on the regional art scene. Additionally, UOB Painting of the Year, one of Southeast Asia’s most prestigious annual art competitions, will expand to its fifth country, Vietnam, this year.
