    Pub grub hub

Guru, Richard Mcleish, Published on 21/11/2014

» Sanity aside, there’s a new comfort burger point in town. It’s housed in the cosy wood-laden surrounds of the shophouse that the original incarnation of Seven Spoons once occupied. It houses 10, maybe 12 at a pinch, but this isn’t the place for the be-seen scene. Not yet anyway. To diversify from its origins, the visuals follow a Polynesian bent, with a tiki twist. It’s still finding its feet decor-wise, but seems to have the right intent – the young front man Pavee “Wham” Bhayungvej was a visual merchandiser in a past life, after all. The music is on point and inviting as can be. The two-storey shophouses of the area ooze charm and potential – it’s a shame they are so far away – unless you live over in Samsen or the like, of course. The crowd is a mix of Wham’s friends, Seven Spoons devotees and the odd walk-in, who would be pleasantly surprised to see what they find inside the snug room.

    Second time around

» The second branch of aLL Six To Twelve follows the original in Lang Suan. It has a strong industrial feel with its bare concrete floor, zinc sheets, wooden beams, and rustic wall decorated with past issues of the Bangkok Post (extra points here). It feels like sitting in a stylish warehouse but also may come across as a bit raw for some. Expect Japanese and western expats as well as office workers here on weekdays.

    Where there's smoke...

» The battle for the Bangkok burger crown has been raging for a while now, and it's fair to say that no kitchen has emerged as a clear winner.

    Seeing red

Guru, Richard Mcleish, Published on 09/03/2012

» Just when Silom looked to be lost to bank headquarters, massage parlours and tourists, Scarlett Wine Bar & Restaurant has popped onto the scene in full bright crimson. It has nothing to do with Miss Johansson, sadly, as she would have had punters drooling all the way to Patpong after the recent photo leak of her bathroom demeanour. Instead, the Silom spot is a sister venue of Scarlett in Beijing that has been wining and dining Far East-based shmoozers since 2009.
