    Flip the health switch

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 27/01/2017

» The new year brings about so many idealistic goals and changes -- and from our own past experiences, let's just say that it's fairly likely that not all will be achieved by February. So we figured, instead of completely cutting out sugar or carbs from your diet, how about making a few healthy swapsies instead.

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 28/10/2016

» These three happy faces you see are the founders of TRIBE, the spanking new indoor cycling studio located in the bustling Ratchadamri neighbourhood. Business partners, they may be, but this trio have been friends since childhood. Their shared passion for spinning led them to create a totally new workout concept that was not only focused on exercise but also on building a community of like-minded individuals who share an interest in fitness, fashion and music. We caught up with Ploy Bhinsaeng, Pasu "Luang" Liptapanlop and Natapa "Joy" Sriyuksiri to find out more about the studio and what the best track is to spin to right now.

    The spaces between us

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 07/04/2017

» No doubt, Bangkok has its fair share of issues that hover over the urban landscape. From developers chasing out communities to make way for even more condominiums to the lack of greenery -- and don't get us started on the state of footpaths and the Jackson Pollock-inspired electrical wires we have proudly exhibiting all around town -- there's clearly a lot for our eyes to take in.

But don't let their sweet-looking faces fool you — they have every intention of building their start-up into a sportswear empire. Pao ingeniously combines her experience in e-commerce with Pook's extensive knowledge of the high-end fashion industry and together they have created an online community catered to those who like to shop and share their passions for their active and fashionable lifestyle. Guru chats to the siblings to find out more about their business, the latest trends and which IG accounts to follow for some fitness inspiration.

    Not your usual lunch ladies

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 02/09/2016

» Anyone who has ever worked or is currently working in the F&B and hospitality industry knows that the word "easy" is not a part of the job description. And anyone who says otherwise, is probably not doing it right. From dealing with difficult customers and unreliable suppliers to spending long hours on your feet in the kitchen working under tremendous pressure, there are a myriad of reasons that make working in F&B sound far from a dream job to most. But there are those few out there who welcome these challenges and manage to do it with a smile still intact.

    Pizza Massilia, all grown up

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 26/02/2016

» Wander down Soi Ruam Rudee and you’re guaranteed to be extremely well-fed even before you hit its halfway point. But one can never have too many Italian joints, especially when you live in Bangkok. Thus, the recently opened Pizza Massilia Ruam Rudee was welcomed to the neighbourhood with open arms. It helps too, that the restaurant has already made a name for itself, dishing out great pizza during last year’s food truck boom. Its restaurant counterpart, though, is operating on a much larger scale, with more items on the menu and top-notch service in a striking locale with a late baroque interior and pastel hues. Visually stunning, the aesthetics take a pizzeria experience to the next level, as well as reflect the unique stance on cuisine.

    Thong Lor to-do

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 29/01/2016

» Let's start with what we love about hi-so stomping ground Thong Lor: Sightings of Ferraris revving their engines even though they're stuck in 10kph Friday traffic. The utter looks of disbelief of which only rich kids are capable, after they find out there's no valet parking. New bistros, the lifespan of which are approximately three-months before disappearing from the face of the Earth.

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 05/02/2016

» After noticing a huge pool of culinary talent hidden in Bangkok's home kitchens — and a growing demand for authentic meals — Samuel Coizet and Pakki Sampataphakdee co-founded Kinkao (www.kinkao.co), an online platform that allows home chefs to cook and sell home-made meals to the people in their neighbourhoods. From Vietnamese to Mexican to Southern Thai, you can find nearly every type of cuisine on the website. We spoke with the founders about their endeavour.

    Back to the future

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 01/01/2016

» "Lying on the ground" is the literal meaning of the restaurant's name, a reference to the traditional way hawkers and street traders display and sell their goods. It's clear that Thai food culture continues to inspire Thitid "Ton" Tassanakajohn, the talented chef and restauranteur behind successful eateries Le Du, Baan and Taper. He can now add Baa Ga Din to that list, having found a gastronomical sweet spot that not only delights with a fine-dining level of culinary creativity while homing in on familiar nuances of the food we hold dear to our hearts (and stomachs).

    Life lessons you can eat

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 09/10/2015

» Dwight Turner is a man who wears many hats. Not only is he a familiar face in Thailand's culinary scene (yes, he's the man behind bkkfatty.com and contributes to eatingthaifood.com), but he also spearheads In Search of Sanuk, a charity that provides food, shelter and educational support to survivors of torture and trauma. His love for all things delicious and a passion for education has inspired him to create Courageous Kitchen, a place where cooking skills meet life lessons. Turner and his team of volunteers hold cooking classes for disadvantaged children, teaching them how to make tasty meals, as well as discipline, self-confidence and the importance of healthy eating.
