Let's Judge Candidates by Their Posters Pt.2

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 08/03/2019

» The campaign posters are EVERYWHERE. You either dodge them while navigating your way on a Bangkok sidewalk (of lack thereof it) or scroll down your Facebook newsfeed and see like seven of them without even trying.

    Thank You!

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 06/07/2018

» Thailand breathed a collective sigh of relief on Monday night after a team of 12 teenage football players and their coach were found alive inside Tham Luang Cave in Chiang Rai after 10 days of being trapped inside. Though we may be able to sleep sound, there's still a long way to go (and many more dramas, rumours and photos of handsome rescuers to come) before they are evacuated to safety. It's already been reported that they may have to stay there for months so let's keep our fingers crossed and our hopes alive.

    Intern Intel

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 19/10/2018

» Part of my job is to -- ahem -- supervise bright-eyed interns who come through GURU's door for an experience they won't be able to buy somewhere else. To benefit any aspiring interns out there, I would like to share a few points based on real-life experiences to help make internship a valuable experience for you.

    True costs only Bangkokians know

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 28/09/2018

» Have you noticed that somethings in life come with hidden costs -- monetary or otherwise -- that we may not be aware of until we experience it? And some of them are pretty unique to the Bangkok way of life. If you're not sure what I'm getting at, take a look at the examples below that may make you nod along (or hopefully laugh along). g

    Farmer brothers

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 31/08/2018

» Mitdanai "Port" and Phundanai "Peat" Sathavonmanee co-founded CORO FIELD (fb.com/corofieldTH), a Japanese-style agro-tourist destination in Ratchaburi, in 2015. Since then, the brothers have branched out with a café in Esplanade Ratchada and a dessert shop in CentralWorld while Coro Field thrives as an example of what agriculture 4.0 looks like. We talked to them about their green ambition to plant a seed for modern farming while helping Thai farmers.

    The art of poking fun

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 01/06/2018

» Tanawat "Pop" Prakammanu, 26, works as a graphic designer at an advertising agency in Bangkok and runs his Facebook page Prakammanu (fb.com/Prakammanu), where he showcases his drawings in his spare time. He went viral after publishing an action-filled Avengers-inspired comic with a cast full of figures in Thai politics from PM Prayut Chan-o-cha to student activist Netiwit Chotiphatphaisal. Pop poked fun at them with sharp humour (even though he insists he's a casual observer) and witty dialogues. His latest effort has been shared more than 100,000 times. His page isn't the first to poke fun at Thai politics but we think it's definitely worth checking out especially if you want to see Uncle Tu having a fist-fight with Thaksin Shinawatra. We talked to Pop about his serious art of poking fun but at, his request, no serious political comment.

What happened in 2017, stays in 2017.

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 01/12/2017

» It's just the beginning of December but I'm already thinking about the year is about to pass and what it has brought with it. There are certainly some things that I will miss, yet there are also some things that I would like us all to leave behind when we say our final farewell to 2017. Let's see if you agree.

    When fashion meets philosophy

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 25/08/2017

» Chardchakaj "Air" Waikawee is a multi-hyphenate who has received international kudos for his photography. Some of you, especially the hipsters, may already know him as the founder/owner of AIRLAB, a photography service which processes films in Sukhumvit Soi 81. He also founded his own production house and creative agency Waikawee, but he came into our radar because of TRULY (fb.com/trulybkk), a clothing brand that he started several months ago. We were so impressed by the thought that went into his unique products which lifts fashion up into something more meaningful.

    The philanthropic photographer

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 22/09/2017

» Surachai "Pui" Saengsuwan, L'Officiel Thailand's fashion editor and photographer, is known for his work in various Thai fashion magazines as well as reality competition shows such as The Face and The Face Men Thailand. But you may not know that he has been behind the lens of several photography projects to raise awareness around serious causes. He collaborated with Tom Potisit, also a well-known fashion photographer, to create "Anatomy 101" in 2015 to raise awareness on organ donation. In July last year, he created an online campaign for the Pic-A-Pet4Home shelter where he photographed handsome cadets with their canine friends to raise awareness on dog adoption. We talked to him about his latest project for Down Syndrome Hero Thailand (fb.com/downsyndromeherothailand) to de-stigmatise those who are born with the condition.

Why Thailand Won't be 4.0 Anytime Soon

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 25/08/2017

» We all have already heard the much-touted "Thailand 4.0" vision -- an aspiration for our beloved country to become an advanced version of itself -- but it seems all recent evidence points to the contrary. Here are some reasons why I believe the chances of Thailand reaching 4.0 are, unfortunately, very slim.
