» In a couple of weeks, Apple will announce its third-quarter results for 2016. The conference call is scheduled for July 26, at 2pm Pacific Time, which is around 5am here. This is expected to be a poorer quarter, but so was the last one, and Apple still had a US$10 billion profit.

Advances in retail experiences for Bangkok's Mac users
Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 25/01/2017
» Research company Gartner claims that 20% of organisations will use smartphones in place of physical access cards by 2020. A few days before reading that, I had been in the new head office of COM7, where staff are signed in and out using iBeacon and a smartphone app. This also controls access to specific areas. I was attending an Open Day at the building in Sanphawut Road, Bang Na.

» Last week, Apple released figures for its most recent quarter, which includes the run up to the new year. There was revenue of US$78.4 billion, beating Wall Street experts again. Those damn cables
Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 28/12/2016
» The 13-inch MacBook Pro I ordered online arrived last week and I switched to that as soon as I could. The transition was relatively smooth, but there were a couple of adjustments. A problem with these new Macs is not the few adapters available, but the lack of suitable cables.

15-inch MacBook Pro a delightful experience
Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 30/11/2016
» Every time Apple releases a new product there is a rush to print. There have been thousands of comments about the new MacBook Pro and what is wrong with it (and Apple), but much of that wasted effort is by those who haven't even seen the device, let alone touched it.

The first Mac announced itself with the word "Hello", adding: "It sure is great to get out of that bag." The invitations for this week's event have "Hello again" on them. It is anticipated there will be new Macs.

Macphun releases Luminar - photo editing software for the Mac
Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 23/11/2016
» I am rather keen on photography but I only consider myself an enthusiast. Output quality is important for me: whether for social networking, my own website, or images I send to the Bangkok Post. I sometimes try to steer users away from Adobe Photoshop, not because there is anything wrong with it (apart from pricing), but that the power of that application is totally wasted for most users, especially if their pictures are just being uploaded to Facebook.

A visit to Affinity apps developers
Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 10/08/2016
» One of my favourite apps released in the last couple of years is Affinity Photo: a full-featured graphics editing program for the Mac aimed at home users who need something more than basic tools, but who may not want to use Adobe Photoshop because of pricing models.
