    Urban picnic

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 10/02/2012

» Dining among nature in the centre of Bangkok isn't the stuff of fairytales anymore. No longer do you have to experience the tragedy of attempting a picnic lunch at Lumpini Park, and being attacked by pigeons, turtles and monitor lizards in the process. Break free from the shackles of a faux-flora-and-fauna joint, where views of the concrete jungle loom like a dark shadow.

    You're fired!

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 09/03/2012

» What's the riskiest thing you've ever done at the office? Stealing your boss's hair from his/her desk to use in a voodoo doll? Taking a secret nap in the meeting room? Coming to work unwashed after partying all night? Or just generally slacking off? We have all done a thing or two that management would frown upon (if they came to know of it). And you should be careful because, unlike esteemed MPs and high-ranking officials, Somchais and Somyings get fired every day for their mistakes and sometimes for causes you can't imagine. We've selected five cases of extraordinary sackings which, in hindsight, reveal tips to help you keep your job or at least give you some ideas to go out with a bang.

    Do not pass

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 30/03/2012

» The recent fight between BTS security guards and an Irish man over his daughter's balloons at Phrom Phong station produced one good thing. It's now etched in people's minds (probably for the first time) that innocent balloons are forbidden within the Skytrain system because they are inflammable and, therefore, considered a threat to passenger safety. There goes our plan to suck in helium and talk funny to pass time on the train.

    Puzzling Pricings

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 15/06/2012

» I was on Silom Road recently when I came upon a farang man, probably in his 20s. He asked a motorcycle taxi driver how much he would charge for a lift to a nearby hotel. The driver mimed out a price of B30 with his hands. The guy mistook the gesture for B300 and became upset. The driver was offended too that the farang thought he tried to rip him off. Only after another driver explained that there was no extra zero, he gestured a wai to the driver to apologise. Both men swallowed their bruised pride before they agreed to complete the B30 transaction.

    Draw Something

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 22/06/2012

» While most of us have outgrown the "draw-on-the-wall-and-get-yelled-at" phase, Jirachai "Keng" Taweesarn is still there. The 27-year-old turned his family's house into a gallery of nightmarish cartoonish monsters, and he didn't stop there. Keng has drawn on everything from a toilet seat to a motorcycle, a water cooler, his own body and more.
