From the Big Apple to the Big Mango

Muse, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 26/05/2018

» It's all been there done that on the Cannes Lion advertising award circuit for Kantapon Metheekul. The young creative executive has won many awards, been featured in several publications and has illustrated for a handful of high street and luxury fashion brands -- but that's not his true calling. As someone who loved to draw since he was five, it was only natural that Kantapon's veins throbbed to become a full-time artist -- to draw his own creations and not what others briefed him to. After three years of working for advertising agencies, he packed his bags and headed to New York to become an artist.

The go-to fashion brand for petite ladies

Muse, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 09/12/2017

» Sweet and petite, Rassarine "Kathy" Tanachaiwattanapokin makes the kind of clothes that are perfect for small, dainty women. Although her feminine brand, Made of Fabric, has been around since 2011, it was only this season that the founder/designer presented her autumn/winter collection, "Dreamless Romance", with a big, rosy splash at CentralWorld. With a childhood spent around fabrics and a master's degree in fashion from Istituto Maragoni, Rassarine has turned her passion into a popular label -- so much so that Chinese tourists make her store a stop on their travel itineraries. Using herself as the prototypical model, you'll be sure to always find itsy-bitsy pieces here (Kathy loves short hemlines because they make legs look longer). We talked to the designer about her brand's history and why the girlie girls love it.

    So into you, Ariana

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 22/08/2017

» It's true how beautiful people can do no wrong. They can be doing nothing in front of a screen for 10 minutes and people will still be entranced. That was exactly how Ariana Grande's first concert in Bangkok last Thursday kicked off. With a countdown video of her checking herself out looking pretty, swinging around her hair, interacting with her crew and teasing the audience with "I-can't-hear-you" by leaning her ear in towards the camera.

    Three's a charm

» One of the most anticipated fashion gatherings of the year is about to be smaller than ever. This year, Fashion Fieldtrip, which features shows by Bangkok's cultishly followed brands, including Asava, Issue and Vickteerut, will be welcoming only 150 spectators. This is a stark difference to the guest list that reached four digits in the past. Whether Fashion Fieldtrip is returning to its roots or is just finding an excuse to downsize in the face of an economic downturn has yet to be seen with how well the shows turn out on Sept 17 at Bangkok City City Gallery. Still, with this relatively new space at Sathon playing host to a handful of highly buzzed and hot exhibitions and events in the past few months, it is in good taste that the three founders of the club decided to hold their fashion/art exhibition inside this popular white box.

Clothing giant Uniqlo's bread and butter of Lifewear, is redefined through a designer lens, with a couple of collections offering distinct characteristics that suit different lifestyles this season. These pieces continue to be functional, but look a lot more fashion-conscious by enlisting big and influential names from the stylish circle to work their sartorial magic.

    Colette's gone to H&M

Muse, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 05/08/2017

» Instead of crying a river upon the news of Colette closing this Dec 20, it's probably a better idea to start planning your pilgrimage to the Parisian boutique before it shuts its doors forever -- if you've never visited this temple of cool before.

    Sampling the splendid

Muse, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 24/06/2017

» Could you imagine a time when Bangkok was not flooded by dessert cafés, and when parfaits were considered revolutionary? For a moment when you'd be hard-pressed to find a dessert destination that served anything besides ice cream, you'd have to take a time machine and go back 10 years -- to before Kacha Bros came along to dot our landscape with parfait café Sfree and roll-cake authority Kyo Roll En.
