It was interesting to observe how they went about it. Unlike the middle class, the poor didn't have a work ethic. They felt entitled to unearned income.

Those staying on may no longer be in top form (le Carre). But several are (Rendell). Not that this reviewer rates Ruth Randell on a par with Agatha Christie.
