    Delicately Thai

Guru, Mika Apichatsakol, Published on 14/10/2016

» Growing up in Thailand, I was never really fond of our traditional desserts. The combination of coconut and undisguised sugar -- cornerstones of Thai confection -- always hit me like a note too sharp for my bass range of creamy, chocolaty sweets. Why I wanted to give Wanlamun a try, nonetheless, is knowing that it comes from the same patissier behind the short-lived but sensational Let Them Eat Cake, the closure of which we are still crying over.

» We've all fantasised about leaving it all behind to explore the world full-time, but let's be real — how many of us would realistically opt out of stability and having nice stuff? Kookai — Piyapattra Chaimahawong — is one former-Bangkokian who took the road less-travelled. The spur of the moment decision ended up leading her to finding sustainability in being a digital nomad as well as a loving travel companion, Mathieu. Guru catches up with the travel bug to talk about living a location-independent life and her blog, makeajourney.co.

» With Thonglor's famous brunch quarters, Roast, relocated to its new home at the Commons, Seenspace's second floor has welcomed a new tenant, Honey. Walk through the same doors to a brand new environment: Honey has got a much brighter and open interior than the former. Aside from the pleasing white and yellow colour palette established by furniture, we adore other subtle cues ascribing to the life of bees. Look closely at the white wallpaper around the bar, for instance, and you'll see the hexagonal pattern of honeycomb. Look up, and there's more geometry, this time alluding to flora from which bees collect the saccharine precursor to honey. Most inconspicuous of all are the overhead lights' assorted encasements. The owner tells us the spherical cages and cylindrical shades are inspired by beekeepers' headgear.
