    The virtuous one

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 14/04/2017

» Liam Cunningham is quite a funny bunny -- a stark opposite of the character he is best known for portraying: Game Of Thrones' dependably virtuous knight, Ser Davos Seaworth. While in Bangkok earlier this month, he unflinchingly munched the head off fried insects at the street stall and gleefully admitted to nicking tiny props from the set every year, be it the small wooden stag or coins from Braavos. He asks the props man first of course, and most of it ends up on his daughter's "wall of awesome" in her bedroom.

» Hailed as a woman who has revived modern tap dance, Sarah Reich commands a strong following -- her YouTube videos have garnered almost 1 million views. Fusing a funky street style and catchy beats of today with classic tap techniques, it's not just swing music that she taps into: Lady Gaga's Bad Romance and Star Wars theme songs are among her playlist. The tap awakens, indeed.

    Living by the sword

» For Tommy Dunne, the weapons master of Game Of Thrones, fiddling around with Swarovski-encrusted swords, bronze shields, bows and spears is all in a day's work. Showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff even roped him into a season four cameo as the blacksmith who reforges Ned Starks's Ice into the iconic swords, Oathkeeper and Widow.

» Central Embassy has worn many faces. Its positioning has shuffled around from ultra-luxury to hipster to a lifestyle hub, but one thing's for sure. When they've reeled in a world-class model like Kiko Mizuhara as the face of their ad campaign, there's no doubt that it strives to be a world-class destination.

    The man on the moon

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 28/04/2017

» The 60th-anniversary celebration of the Speedmaster featured plenty of stardust (I mean celebrities), but the event also saw the attendance of the space hero who wore Omega's rigorous test-racing watches to the Moon. Looking resplendent in a jazzy American-flag tie, with three Omega watches on his wrist and a highly unexpected number of rings for an 87-year-old, Buzz Aldrin is still a hoot when talking about his mission 48 years ago. With a laugh, the man insists he is living proof that the concept of selfies existed in his time too. After all, he first decided he wanted to take a photo of himself in space in 1966. It's only fitting that such a character inspired the name of Toy Story's Buzz Lightyear.

    The wealth of health

» His words tumble out slowly and at times repetitively, without the groomed articulation that one might expect of a global magnate whose job is also to be the poster boy of his empire. He continuously fiddles with a sugar pot. Up close, he seems wirier than in pictures, and save for the iconic long hair and beard, the 65-year-old Brit on the other side of the table looks nothing like one of the world's most influential billionaires.

    Filthy rich, and loving it

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 10/08/2015

» Days of back-breaking labour in the desolate boonies, farming for their lives, is a stale cliché concerning the Chinese. Women are no longer under some ring of patriarchal oppression and they contemptuously shun haute couture dresses bedecked with phoenix and dragon embroidery. This is a new and brave China we are talking about -- they are not just crazy rich -- they are China Rich, as Kevin Kwan's second book title aptly coins it.

    No stopping the spectacular

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 25/06/2021

» As the Covid-19 pandemic is easing in some places around the world, one city that was among the hardest hit last year is emerging from the desolation in a glittering manner. Earlier this month, Italian jeweller Bvlgari unveiled their latest high jewellery collection Magnifica in Milan, in a spectacular manner nothing short of high-octane lavishness.

» Luggage is a product that must be lasting, but who's to say it shouldn't be injected with some fun and fashion? That's what creative director Victor Sanz brought along with him when he joined the international house of travel, business and lifestyle accessories, Tumi, in 2003.
