    family visa

By Anonymous, Created on: 02/01/2004, Last updated on: 12/09/2006

» When the Thai government will allow foreigners with Thai spouse and children to own a one year visa without the need to travel out of the country every 3 month or to show 800 thousands bahts in a bank account, this is very unfair and even most of the Thais don't earn this sum per year, why this discrimination...

    • Anonymous commented : eaty, really are in breach of international treaties when treating other nationals in a different manner then their own nationals. When in breach of the UN charter, also in breach of Thai law. But not in breach of Thai pratices. But the government don`t care, do they no....? No government do..... I want to mention the 200 Bath fee at national parks for farang versus 20 Bath for Thai nationals. It is not the money, it`s the disgrace! Not to mention my Thai birth wife, presumably armed and dangerous as she was holding a scandi passport for her collaboration with the enemy, was fined for two days overstay last time she went home to visit her parents and rest of the family. I contacted the human rights department at the UN on the matter. Never even had an answer back.

    • Anonymous commented : i standing point of view, the international relationship with Thai spouse is a one way ticket out of Thailand. And if you want to stay in Thailand, you will have to give and pay and give and pay from top to bottom like a slave cash cow. PS if my wife knew what she knows now, she woun't have married me.

    • Anonymous commented : age, get the added benefit of international travel, your support, and usually, faithful love. I wonder if the loss to Thai chicks is worth it - leaving warm Thailand where you know the score, as life in some countries must surely seem grim by comparison... Dude if you are being asked for money then question why. Tell the family mafia that it's not the done thing where you are from and so what compromise can be reached. If they still insist ask the lady in question if she really wants to leave her culture and society, if not and they are holding out for cash, make the call - pay up or leave. If you feel as though her family are taking the piss then walk away. Be string and trust your gut instincts. Where does the love of money come from? I know it's universal and not uniquely Thai but it seems to be an all too common experience for foreigners who want to marry Thai chicks. Is is the fact that life in Thailand is tough? That money brings status? That women struggle to find well-paid jobs with no welfare system to fall back on? Is this not all a continuation of the whole 'women as objects' gig. By asking for a dowry they are, in effect, being sold by their families. This is the opposite to Indian culture where you pay to marry your daughter into a good family. Good grief, where are the sane Thai chicks who want to marry for love. They must be out there as Thai culture is typically asian - romantic and gooey to the point of nausea when it suits. Khrap.

    Understanding the American ways

    • Anonymous commented : you can consider Phuket as an international city with international schools and univerisities. The provinces surrounding Phuket are also very exceptional. I think Phuket will be a nicer place after the reconstruction. Thai government will start to enforce and regulate new city plannings and codes. There are both private and public hospitals on Phuket and the surrounding provinces. Krabi has sizeable retirement communities. If you like sea foods and the sea, I would recommend any provinces south of Bangkok Metroplex starting from Phetchaburi to Songkhla.

    • Anonymous commented : Idaho, is not exactly the international hub of the United States. You are different and that you should be proud of. American's are never sure what to say to someone who is Asian. It is because for the most part we have few things in common. The next issue, we know pretty much nothing about Asia. My company and I send students from China to the US. I inform them of how to over come this problem that so many Asians face. I encourage them to join clubs. There are many in every city in the US. Then you will be with people who have a common interest. The next thing is to be friends with the people you go to school with. You can start a conversation by sitting down in class, look over to the person next to you and say.......Did you get your homework completed? Did you think it was easy or hard or long or borning. Then they will start asking you "Where are you from?" Don't assume American's will know. Most American's want to talk to you but don't know what to say. If you start the conversation then they will jump in. If you only smile then American assume your smile means you are shy and your English is not good. No worries. Be yourself and take risks. You have nothing to lose but loneliness. Hope things work out. Your American Friend,Julia My suggestion is not to run to Canada, because you will find the same problem or worse. The French - Canadians who only speak French.

    Buying property in Thailand

» Nothing much to say here is there, i think that IAN has told us all there is to know and believe me.......... .he's right.

    • Anonymous commented : ch at Jones Lang LaSalle - an international real estate consultant. Although it is difficult to estimate the exact number of expats living in Bangkok, those who have been granted work permits by the government continue to rise on an annual basis. The number of expats working legally in the capital rose from 47,107 at the end of 2004 to 54,607 at the end of 2005, up 16 per cent, and jumped another 5 per cent to 57,343 by mid-year 2006, according to Jones Lang LaSalle. Many more expats are known to live in Thailand's capital without work permits, leaving the country every 90 days to renew their tourist visas. The government is mulling tightening regulations on tourist visas to crack down on these illegal residents. According to Jones Lang LaSalle's study, 2006 will see a total of 34 new condominium projects with more than 7,600 units completed in central Bangkok, but the new space will not necessarily undermine the apartment sector. "We do not believe the apartment market will be significantly affected by competition from condominiums due to the distinct natures of the two types of developments," said Dan. "Apartments are purpose-built for rent and thus offer features that are tailored to tenant requirements, including specific conceptual and architectural designs, unit sizes, and furnishings as well as tenant management," he noted.
