From the Big Apple to the Big Mango

Muse, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 26/05/2018

» It's all been there done that on the Cannes Lion advertising award circuit for Kantapon Metheekul. The young creative executive has won many awards, been featured in several publications and has illustrated for a handful of high street and luxury fashion brands -- but that's not his true calling. As someone who loved to draw since he was five, it was only natural that Kantapon's veins throbbed to become a full-time artist -- to draw his own creations and not what others briefed him to. After three years of working for advertising agencies, he packed his bags and headed to New York to become an artist.

    A tribute to unsung heroes

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 29/01/2016

» Yes. Finally an Akshay Kumar movie that you really cannot afford to miss. Loosely based on a true story almost lost in the sands of time that went by largely unreported, Airlift brings to life that believable kind of heroism only classics like Schindler's List have artfully managed to depict. Regardless of how true to historical details the movie is, its story of Indian refugees trapped in Kuwait after Saddam Hussein's troops attacked the country in 1990 packs an unforgettable punch.

    In the dark

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 13/01/2016

» Thailand's advertising industry occupies both the highest and lowest grounds when it comes to pushing creativity. We're often regarded as the funniest peddlers in the world, and there's a long string of Cannes trophies and instantaneous LOL-reactions to prove it. But, at the opposite end of the spectrum, we also sometimes attract international media attention for the wrong reasons, such as the discriminating ads that continue to infiltrate the public sphere. Last week, beauty company Seoul Secret caused an uproar with its whitening pill tagline that brazenly voiced what other skin-whitening ads in Thailand have been subliminally implying for decades: "You just need to be white to win."

    Dazzling, dreamlike Cinderella

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 13/03/2015

» Good old storytelling and a bit of magic is what Disney does best (and should stick to). Let's all just sit back and be dreamy-eyed for a change — everything the Mouse House has churned out with a try-hard dark twist was terribly bland and forgettable (ahem, Alice In Wonderland) — or, in Maleficent's case, like watching an hour-long advertisement for Angelina Jolie.
