» The coffee cherries were ripe, a bright, appetising red. Even from a distance, the scarlet berries stood out clearly on the long, straight branches of Coffea canephora, the botanical name for the species commonly known as Robusta. This type of coffee is widely grown in the South and, according to statistics compiled by the Office of Agricultural Economics, more than half the land devoted to cultivating this cash crop in our southern provinces is located in Chumphon, where plantations also boast the highest yield per rai in the entire region.
