    Pre-Marital Sex. - Part I.

» Hello Mr. Rooster ; I moved this discussion to this more appropriate thread. Mr. Rooster wrote : "People are like animals, and their sexual drives will involve some types of pre-marital sex. So prostitution will be there to provide needed service. " The sexual urge is indeed extraordinarily powerful,...

    • Anonymous commented : Hello AyNot. Thanks for your post. Not exactly sure what you mean my "mature". For most people this is an illusion, a dream, a mirage for a thirsty traveler. We have put this stumbling block in our own path ourselves. For thousands of years people have been getting married when they were "immature". This is exactly the point. Another cut from a Thai search engine. "Thai teenagers shun condoms" AFP Thailand’s teenagers are shunning the use of condoms in an alarming trend, the health ministry warned yesterday as it called for more campaigns to encourage their use for protection against diseases like HIV-Aids. A survey of 350 teenage boys in northeastern Kalasin province found that only 24 percent of them regularly used condoms as they believed it was safe to sleep with someone they knew, it said in a statement. The survey also found that the average age of boys having sex for the first time had dropped from 16 years of age in 1998 to 14 years, due at least partly to their exposure to a more permissive society." This dream of maturity sounds good in theory, but is not easily achieved (I would say impossible to achieve). If you do not allow young people to get married, then they WILL have premarital sex. They will do it in secret (due mostly to the parents forbidding it) and therefore be on their own, chose completely inappropriate partners, bond and then break up (or get ripped apart by our society). The first break up is the worst, crying and not eating for a week, it gets easier every time after that (less of your heart gets ripped out). Then bond again, break up again, listen to their parents telling them sex is bad, yet confused by the powerful signals from their bodies. So the boy is wandering around over here getting his head and heart totally screwed up, the the girl is wandering around over there getting her head and heart totally screwed up, then then we expect them to get together after all this trauma (when they are "mature") and forget everything about the sex is bad and the break ups and the heartbreak, and love each other forever. Quite a confusing message. It's no wonder our kids are confused!! Soon they get pretty good at breaking up. So it should be no surprise when our divorce rate skyrockets. We inadvertently train our kids to be good at breaking up, and then we are surprised when they can't stay together. So after many train wrecks (and probably a few children both in and out of marriage), and inner reflection, this person makes a concious decision to make it work. Great. This type of relationship is just a shell of what if could have been, vibrancy and love replaced by pragmatism. But if this is what you mean by mature, then sorry to say, but I don't want my daughter to be "mature" when she gets married. It was never this way before for many thousands of years. Try to understand that I agree with you that sex should be saved for marriage!! The point I am trying to make is that many years ago, this was EASY!!!! People got married BEFORE their biological urges started. Then incredibly strong bonding occured, therefore few breakups, very few single people to temp the married, in short it was EASY to achieve this. Can you understand what I am saying?? The very situation everyone desires (no sex outside marriage, low divorce rate, etc.) was EASY to achieve before. It was not difficult. It was EASY!! We have arbitrarily decided that you should be "mature" before you get married. This is exactly what is causing all the problems. This is not an unsolvable problem. We have done this to ourselves. By the way all of the information you posted about age of concents is available in my very first post by clicking on the link I provided. So thanks again for your post.

    • Anonymous commented : Hello All ; "Suicide is a serious public health problem." David Satcher, US Surgeon General, in 1999. Indeed, more people are killing themselves in the US than are being killed by others. And statistics don't tell the whole story. In many cases, family members deny that a death was a suicide. In addition, it is estimated that for every completed suicide, between 10 and 25 are attempted. Suicide rates worldwide have increased 60% in the last 45 years. Something is very wrong. What is it? Search the web for "teen suicide". You will be shocked. "Suicide and Loneliness. Loneliness is one of the factors that lead people to depression and suicide. Jouko Lonnqvist, who headed a study of suicides in Finland, said: "For a great number [of those who had committed suicide], everyday life was lonely. They had lots of spare time but few social contacts. Kenshiro Ohara, a psychiatrist at Hamamatsu University School of Medicine in Japan, commented that "isolation" was behind the recent surge in suicides by middle-aged men in that country." Awake! October 22, 2001. "When someone is alone with his problem, then he usually sees it as disproportionately large and unsolvable." Bela Buda, Hungarian health official. Human beings were never designed to be alone, particularly with all the pressures of modern living. Is it possible that many of these tragic suicides could have been prevented if the person had a soul mate? It is natural for parents to want to protect their children from emotional pain, and therefore try to prevent them from bonding. But these are the results. "A recent survey in Britian indicated that when children are subjected to severe bullying, they are nearly seven times as likely to attempt suicide. The emotional pain that that these children suffer is real. A 13 year old boy who hanged himself left behind a note naming five people who had tormented him and had even extorted money from him. "Please save other children," he wrote." - Awake! October 22, 2001. Wow. How tragically sad for the boy, his parents, his friends and relatives, and all of us too. Not minimizing the obvious question of why our society is spawning bulleys, we can never know if this poor boy would have committed suicide if he had a soul mate to share his problems. Then the other question begging to be asked is would this bullying even have taken place if the five named bulleys had THEIR soul mates to hopefully provide a little stabilizing influence? We think we have all the answers while our society silently crumbles around us undetected. Cheers!!

    Understanding the American ways

    • Anonymous commented : My schedule has been so tight that I didn't have time to response to any messages. Thank you Rooster for your input. As much as I feel a little more at home in Southern or Northern part of CA, I wouldn't wish to go back and live there. I prefer a place that is not congested and close to nature & it wouldn't bother me if I have to work in a small hospital setting. Pardon my ignorance, I would appreciate it if you could explain to me more about Thai health care system. I have absolutely no clue. I did have a thought about going back to Thailand, but honestly I'm not sure if I can deal with the traffic and pollution. It will also be a big decision for my husband as far as his career goes. In response to Adam's message, I can appreciate exactly where you are coming from. There is this saying "when you're in Rome, act like the Roman do" and frankly i've been trying. Anyway I'm sorry if I didn't explain myself clearly. I do not expect the American to try to learn about my culture and what I said was merely an example of what I have experienced so far and I was trying to analyse and find out why? Each culture has certain clue as to how you will behave or say. I can say for certain what Thai will think, but I can't say I know exactly what American will think. There was a time I was confused if I was being rude when giving a person an advice. I wasn't trying to teach a person but I just showed her another way of doing things and of course I was very careful about the way I put it. You see! for me giving someone's advice is a way of showing that I care and wanted only the best for the person. Somehow I sensed that I was doing the wrong thing. My husband thought i should mind my own business which I later did. I feel American won't tell you if what you have said or done is considered rude in their culture because I believe they think it will upset a person, but this is a problem for me because I will never have a chance to learn or know.

    • Anonymous commented : No-one made the land or natural resources. Land is the heritage of the people as a whole. Land values are not created by the owner, but by the demand for it, which is determined by its natural attributes or its location in relation to amenities and services provided by others. If foreigners are allowed to buy land, it will drive land prices and land rents upwards. This will reduce the standard of living for the indigenous population, causing abject poverty for many on low or no income. I have visited Thailand many times. The fact the poor can gather wild plants to eat on land not owned by anyone and fish for food means that nobody starves. But, as private landownership increases, this is option is rapidly diminishing. Of course people should have stewardship of the land; otherwise, they will not farm or develop it. But they should compensate the community for withholding it from use by others. People are entitled to value added by their productive efforts, but not from the value of the land itself, which is unearned. This can be achieved by a) the local or central government leasing out the land, as happened in Hong Kong. There the British Government leased land from China for 150 years and raised revenue by selling shorter term leases, or b) taxing the land values on an annual basis. The latter will ensure that the increase in value of land goes to the community as a whole and not the individual land owner. In this way, public investment in infrastructure, amenities, health and education services etc, can be financed without raising other taxes. The tax liability will also ensure that land prices remain low, thereby avoiding the government having to raise interest rates (as in the UK at present) to cool down the property boom. Interest rates have the same affect on property prices as a land value tax (lower them and property prices rise, raise them and property price fall – other things being equal) but high interest rates have detrimental effects on businesses and impoverishes those who are in debt. Thailand has a wonderful chance of avoiding the problems of a high land price economy – gross inequality, high business start up costs, inflationary pressures, and harmful corrective policies. People in the UK have become wage slaves for most of their lives to finance huge mortgages or high rents for a roof over their heads.

    Medical care in Thailand

By Anonymous, Created on: 15/02/2007, Last updated on: 13/03/2014

» So next time you go to Thailand for an holiday or medical care give the Thai people the respect they deserve. • wilko commented : Personal experience is really not a valid argument here. What I'm trying to point out is that health care in Thailand is a lottery. You MAY get what you consider to be reasonable care - most people actually don't have enough medical knowledge to know if the care they had was the most appropriate for the problem - but they emerge from hospital "better" and thankful. hospitals know that patients can be very grateful - even when they have received the wrong treatment - they're happy to be out and alive. comparing with other countries. monitoring and regulation of Heath care in Thailand is virtually non-existent so figures are conveniently not available. Hospitals resort to their own studies and personal recommendations. They use ads in papers whose language reminds one of those "snake-oil" ads in the back of the Sunday tabloids. they use the patients fears and ignorance to generate new business. USA - has possibly one of the worst health care systems in the "developed" world - BUT if you are treated incorrectly by a Doctor or institution you CAN resort to litigation AND you may well get a result. THIS IS NOT SO in Thailand. there is little or no comeback for the patient. so you don't have any INSURANCE is this respect - you are gambling all or nothing. I know of serious misconduct by medical people all over the world - it happens - but in Thailand I've come across examples of absolutely inexcusable malpractice, negligence and just plain ignorance by Doctors and other staff - and it looks to be of a frequency tat is way higher than most western countries......and this is the rub - THERE IS NO COMEBACK! If you are thinking of using the Thai health care system -think carefully - what will you do if - or when - something goes wrong.

Advice Needed About Father's Imminent Marriage

The temperatures are not so hot which means its at least bearable for most of the year. The only disadvantage is the expensive trips back to Los and the problems of sending money back to the relatives.

However, I have a different view of why not to bring the "majority" of them there. I love Eddie Murphy's early years when he was doing stand-up concerts. One of his lines. He says something like: I went to Africa and got me a real women to be my wife and knows who the man of the house. She takes care of me, the house and always asks: "Eddie, what can I do for you?". Then I made the mistake of bringing her back to the U.S. with me. She meets some new girlfriends, and goes out with them regularly during the day. They are abashed to see how she acts like an old-fashioned wife and drill her about modern day women. After couple months of this, Eddie finds she has learned new phrasesand no longer asks "Eddie, what can I do for you, honey?" but instead: "Eddie, What have you done for me lately?" and then finally, "Eddie, I want half!!!!" rgds / sardines

Proof of income needed to marry?

By Anonymous, Created on: 03/01/2008, Last updated on: 01/01/2009

» Can someone please clarify if you need a proof of income in order to marry in Bangkok in an Amphur Office?

    • bastos60 commented : I am somewhat shocked by the question. The marriage will not be the problem when it is a local marriage. But when you want to bring her back to your home country, or have the marriage legalized so that is valid in your country as well there is quite a lot of paperwork. Do you need proof of income, definately, and not just what you have in your savings account, you need to provide evidence of a monthly income and that income must be sufficient to provide for your wife. If you can not provide any evidence of a monthly income they will not let you bring in your wife even though you are married to her in Thailand, the embassy will just not validate the marriage. Then there is also the health insurance you need to provide for her and sufficient funds for a return ticket.
