    Hey presto

Life, Bernard Trink, Published on 15/02/2016

» In every category there's a person or group recognised as the best in their field of endeavour. Not all people agree with the judges' choice. Arguments invariably ensue over, "This award or prize goes to …..", "Are they blind or deaf? W, Y, Z was better than X by a long shot."

    The future is now

Life, Bernard Trink, Published on 21/03/2016

» While there have been vast improvements in the military sector for millennia, the soldiers wielding the weapons remained much the same. Basic training toughens them, yet their bare strength is no match for a bear or an ape. Psychologically they are vulnerable to stress.

    Guilty or innocent?

Life, Bernard Trink, Published on 28/09/2015

» Chicago's Gillian Flynn is the literary flavour of the decade. This reviewer didn't read Gone Girl, the novel that made her famous, but I saw the screen adaptation and was impressed by the story's twists and turns. Isis foiled

Life, Bernard Trink, Published on 15/02/2019

Life, Bernard Trink, Published on 01/08/2016

» The search for lost or hidden treasure is older than Jason and the golden fleece. Legend and history assure us it exists, on land and beneath the sea. Fortune hunters have been searching for it, high and low, for millennia. The Templars squirrelled away their trove, but where?

    Much wisdom here

Life, Bernard Trink, Published on 06/10/2014

» A Free Thinker but not an atheist, I evaluate the world's various religions not by their holy books, but by how their followers act when away from their temple/church/mosque. Alas, all too often, they forget the "be good, do good" sermons. Love, compassion, peace, forgiveness are sung about in hymns, but hardly ever practised.

    An expat's views

Life, Bernard Trink, Published on 06/05/2013

» I don't know if it's true about other countries, but people who have been to Thailand for any length of time between two weeks and 20 years feel impelled to write a book about it. From what they have seen, heard and experienced they believe they understand the Kingdom and its denizens. And if they have learned Thai, they know that much more.
