    A whirlwind tour of Bali

    » Since Bali is renowned for its beautiful beaches, upon arriving, our group, consisting of BWH Hotels executives and media representatives, headed straight to view the picturesque sunset at Jimbaran Beach. The beach was scenic with crystal-clear seawater and silky sand. In addition to people strolling along the shore, I observed two cute puppies tirelessly scampering back and forth from the beach to the sea. After capturing many photos of the sunset, we had dinner at a restaurant called Melati Bali, located right by the beach. The seafood was fresh and delectable. The coconut water was bit disappointing because in spite of its impressive size, it was very bland.

    Call of the wild

    » Woraphot Bunkhwamdi is a naturalist with a special interest in the sounds of nature and birds. While he was an undergraduate student at the Faculty of Sciences, Silpakorn University, he was walking on Ao Manao beach in Prachuap Khiri Khan at night and heard the tinkling sound of numerous button top shells being washed up on the shore then pulled back into the sea. The sound of the shells left a lasting impression on him. Woraphot returned to Ao Manao several years later, but never heard that sound again since the numbers of button top shells had decreased. This incident was one of several reasons which encouraged him to record the sounds of nature.

    Rap against cruelty

    » In collaboration with World Animal Protection Thailand, the song Pai Hai Sood Yood Show Chang (No Elephant Show) by rapper Tawanwad "TangBadVoice" Wanavit was released earlier this month in observance of World Elephant Day, which falls on Aug 12. The video for No Elephant Show depicts the story of a Thai man taking his foreign friend to see an elephant show. Tawanwad appears in the car taking them to the show, with the rapper explaining to the Thai man through rap that behind the scenes, elephants experience cruel training. The music video includes real footage of the abuse suffered by elephants in Thailand.

    » To celebrate 190 years of US-Thai diplomatic relations, the art exhibition "Rivers Of Life" has been organised by the US embassy, ICONSIAM and the Chiang Khong community of Chiang Rai. On view at ICONSIAM, the exhibition features two videos -- I See That You Don't See created by Montika Kam-On, a young Thai moving image artist, and A Tale Of Two Rivers created by Alexis Karl, a US filmmaker and perfume artist. Both aim to raise awareness about environmental issues related to the two rivers -- the Mekong and the Mississippi.
