» For "smooth cultural integration", Thai international study agency Smart NZ Education advises that students with nicknames like Poo, Pee and Porn consider alternatives. The issue made headlines earlier last month after a report by the New Zealand Herald indicated that students might get "harassed if nothing is done". That's not unlikely, despite the fact that "faeces", "urine" and "pornography" -- the formal English words for the aforementioned nicknames -- weren't exactly those parents' intention when their children first came into the world.

» At a time when freedom of expression is becoming increasingly constrained, whether one is just an internet user, a filmmaker or an activist, experimental theatre troupe B-Floor is as relentless as ever. » The night was lively around the neighbourhood of Saint-Germain-des-Prés last Saturday for the opening of this year's Paris Déco Off, an annual event where more than 100 home-furnishing-fabrics brands join to showcase their latest designs. But there was perhaps more buzzing than anywhere else down the quaint Rue de Furstenberg where the Jim Thompson showroom is situated.

Tongue-tied about Thai politics
Life, Kaona Pongpipat, Published on 21/05/2014
» Now is definitely not the best time for us Thais to be travelling abroad, especially if we have to engage in conversations with foreigners about the political situation here. Last weekend, I was on a media trip with a group of reporters from Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines and we had to meet up with quite a few people from Europe.

» Ticket prices for Tanachon Chandruang’s new play The Snow Doesn’t Fall On The Equator at Democrazy Theatre Studio may vary — a “donation according to your capacity” is the only standard. And though some might say this devalues the play, Tanachon said art cannot be evaluated, and the production should be judged by its quality, not by how much a ticket costs.
