It could be fun, in a strange sort of way
News, Roger Crutchley, Published on 10/01/2021
» A number of readers -- well, three -- have asked why last week's column did not contain the usual predictions for the coming year. My feeling at the time was that with the dark cloud of Covid-19 hovering over us it seemed a bit inappropriate to carry the usual frivolous PostScript predictions. However, I have had a change of heart and considering we are only 10 days into the New Year it is not too late to make silly forecasts.

» It's been a bit on the warm side lately hasn't it? Actually, that's not quite correct.

Foreign noses always good for a laugh

» Today's column is coming from the northeastern province of Chaiyaphum to where I periodically escape for a break from Bangkok. There was a quick reminder that I was no longer in the Big Mango while sitting in a village restaurant with my wife and friends. » Switch on BBC World Service television and there is a good chance there will be a female news presenter. Among the more familiar faces these days are Lucy Hockings, Sally Bundock, Philippa Thomas and Karin Giannone. I'm always amazed how calm and relaxed they look in what must be such a stressful job.

Thailand not the worst place to go ‘troppo’
Oped, Roger Crutchley, Published on 21/04/2019
» The Songkran festival seems to have gone on forever this year. There are definitely an awful lot of city people who slipped away for a “long weekend’’ about 10 days ago and haven’t been seen since. Not to worry. By the time they get back they should be just in time for another long weekend.

The festival that never seems to end
News, Roger Crutchley, Published on 15/04/2012
» Songkran appears to have been going on for even longer than usual this year. There's an awful lot of city folks who disappeared a week ago for a ''long weekend'' and haven't been seen since. They probably won't be spotted again until the end of the week, which no doubt will be just in time for another long weekend.
