Life, Kong Rithdee, Published on 28/03/2024

Despite the adjournment, the line-up looks decent, with the best Southeast Asian titles culled from the past year -- Tiger Stripes, Inside The Yellow Cocoon Shell, Abang Adik, Dreaming And Dying, Oasis Of Now, Nowhere Near, Morrison, Thai classics The Adventure Of Sudsakorn and The Adulterer, and a short film competition.

    Life, Published on 04/09/2023

» Along with his early directorial efforts during the late 1990s and early 2000s like Fun Bar Karaoke and Last Life In The Universe, 6ixtynin9 (1999) was remembered as the film that helped Pen-ek Ratanaruang become recognised as a trailblazer in Thai New Wave cinema and for bringing stories of crime and dark humour to a new generation. Due to its unique and unconventional story, 6ixtynin9 was not a commercial success in Thailand at the time, but it went on to become a cult classic and is highly regarded abroad. It won the Don Quixote Award, a Special Mention at the Berlin International Film Festival and Best Feature at the Brooklyn International Film Festival in 2000.

    Indie rock done right

B Magazine, Chanun Poomsawai, Published on 09/02/2020

» "When I was 18/ Someone got stabbed in a church/ But I got used to it/ And forgave all the ways and the names/ It was so long ago, anyways," vocalist Jeremy Gaudet recounts on Murder In The Cathedral, the opening track to Kiwi Jr.'s debut album, Football Money. The vivid songwriting, buoyed by his bandmates' jangly instrumentation, is delivered with the kind of drawl that would have you thinking fondly of Pavement's Stephen Malkmus and The Strokes as well as the Modern Lovers' Jonathan Richman and Parquet Courts' Andrew Savage.
