Learning about Thai ladies in marriage and culture

By Anonymous, Created on: 23/08/2003, Last updated on: 21/10/2007

» I would like to learn about the Thai lady in marriage and the Thai culture. The reason for this, is that after literally travelling the world for many years, during work commitments, and meeting along the way many ladies for serious relationships. I met along the way a lady from Thailand. We met many...

    • Anonymous commented : erally, the host will provide foods and drinks. But the rural people have few to eat for themselves with few food selection comparing to the urban supermarket. Therefore, I feel like intruding them too much if I ask for them to provide me with foods and drinks. I guess I am spoiled. I prefer to eat variety of meats and vegetables, and these things can only be found in the modern supermarket. Therefore, it is very polite and generous for me or you to bring in the foods and drinks, especially, the type of foods and drinks that you preferred. Some meats and foods can be kept for long period without refrigeration like Thai and Chinese sausages, dry fishes and shrimps, dry beef, canned meats and sardines, garlic, shallot, coconut milk, curry pastes, dry chili and black pepper, fish and soy sauces. You should not forget to get a cooler for ice and to keep fresh chickens, pork, soft drinks/beer, and etc.. The fresh meats are to be cooked and ate on the first day. Fresh fruits and vegetables also can be kept for few days. Many Thai desserts from supermarket can also be kept for few day if the ants do not get to it first. Ice is hard to come by if they do not have refrigetator/freezer combo. Many refrigerators in Thailand do not have freezer also, and it is luxury in the rural area. I am planning to get my sister a small microwave next time beside getting my aunt a watch. So I can make some hot tea or coffee without having to boil some water.

    • Anonymous commented : No Thai women do not cut your foods for you at the table. Thai foods are pre-cutted and usually prepared for single bit sizes. There are usually variety of foods serving at dinner. Thai women do not walk behind their husbands either. Usually, you can view their relationship as high and low. For example: husband's head is highest in the family as respect so she should not touch him above his shoulder or joking around him publicly. Public displaces of affections usually are not done...unlike young Thais of today. Oh, many wealthy men are still keeping minor wives in the same large home or multi-buildings. Since most Thai estates are with high fences for privacy, most people do not see what is going on inside. Thai women do not like to be embarrassed publicly or among their social circles - so what ever going on outside their home should be kept separated from their homes. You should only to remember to keep everything under the roof and be very discreet.

    • Anonymous commented : mean to say she prepared the food at the table. But sat next to her husband so she could then see and serve him quickly. But then these were examples in general. Had nothing to do with Thai culture specifically. These are definitely practised in other cultures. My question was are there similar ways of life by the Thai wife. On the question of the mia noi, i have travelled more than enough to know that Thailand is far from the only culture that has this available. The french are famous for it, and is a very accepted way of life. in the same manner it is done discreetly. Please accept my apoligy for not been clear when i ask an open question and give an axample from another culture. As i do not know enough about the Thai culture i cannot give valid examples. So far i have now read three books, on the Thai culture, have spoken to many Thai. Have started to meet Thai friends, but the relationship between husband and wife seems to alude all written knowledge. The best i can get is books written for expats that work in Thailand, so when you think about it, its harder than it sounds. I would love to go and live in Thailand to find out for myself. But then thats a luxury i dont have. Suppose its the same for a Thai wanting to learn about other cultures. Will continue to look and learn.

    • Anonymous commented : area for household items and foods or buying them at the local market if there are available. I usually buy my cousins and others in rural area things like towels, underwears, condiments, dry foods, and etc.. If I visiting them for one week, I would buy enough foods and drinks for 2 weeks supply for everyone beside me. Please do not buy them cigarette or alcohol, social problems later. My uncle loved the solar, dynamo, and battery operated radio plus flashlight. They could take the radio out to the field with them and left it on all day. There are plenty of things that you can buy from Bangkok. Western style supermarkets and shopping center like Wal-Mart are everywhere as in other small cities. Remember, indigenous Thais are not greedy people, and sharing is very important thing in life. Oh, you should make sure to give B100.00 baht to each children in the family before you leave; it would be their saving money or candy money. The amount of money giving to older adults is often unnecessary, but it would depending on your generosity.

    • Anonymous commented : h us since they are plenty of foods and drinks. Your problem would be the language barrier, but you should learn how to greet people the Thai way and learning few words like thank you and hello in Thais. Anyway, acting like youngster does make you feel younger, especially with your wife. You will eventually gaining more respect from other old and young people, which will depending on how you conducting yourself. You also need to call her mom and dad like they are your mom and dad in Thai since they would be like your parents. I would recommend that you learn Thai from Bangkok Post website or get a Rosetta Stone Thai language program for your computer.

    Does thai society accept intermarriages?

By Anonymous, Created on: 19/09/2003, Last updated on: 09/05/2006

» The thai men that are undesirable are usually uneducated ones who try to get through life by being sleazy. This is why alot of thai women are turned off by marrying a thai man. Typical thai males are fairly unambitious, narrow-minded, and judgemental. I think that its the society that is teaching...

    • Anonymous commented : ngs who wouldn't eat any Thai food except, 'Khao phatd'. Now the English won't even look back on their inferior cuisine and only serve Thai food in pubs all over London. I wish you good luck with your endeavours, if you have any. My regards.

    • Anonymous commented : labor on the land to produce foods, build roads, dig dirt, clean toilets, or do all those things to provide for free services. Oh, It is better to divide the world into two. Where A section is always providing certain services and raiding the B section for free everythings, the government of B section will have to pretend and lie to their citizens that they are good, hard working, and people of the land. Oh, it already happened. The first world is already living off their colonial dividends from the developing world and by exploiting them for slave labors and natural resources too.

    • Anonymous commented : ,000 Baht dowery plus all the food booze the wedding guests could eat and drink. A 2 million Baht dowery would be for a rich family girl of high social status, like a super star or a generals daughter. In many cases, doweries of this much are also given back to the couple if the parents are well off. The dowery is suppose to show that you are well intended and can support their daughter to a standard that the parents can accept. It's not suppose to be meant as a sale of their daughter, although that is what is would seem to foreigners, including myself. Love can be vary blinding and most of the time you wont listen to advice. So all I will say is Be Careful and get to sign a pre-marital agreement. If she really loves she will sign it. Mine did and we are very happy together now for 5 years with a 3 year old girl. Good luck
