But not before the flames destroyed a substantial—yet undetermined—amount of computer supplies and goods. Investigators interviewed the watchman, 35-year old Punet Chemkaew, who reported the blaze. He said he was taking a nap and was awakened by the smell of smoke. The fire chief said the fire was likely caused by a spark from a faulty electrical wire.

    Serious damage in condo fire

    » Fire trucks responded to the 22-storey Royal Cliff Garden Resort when smoke was reported coming out of a 21st floor unit. Condo owner John Owen, a New Zealand citizen, said that the fire started in his bedroom. His two sons were sleeping in a second bedroom. Total damage was estimated at more than one million baht.  One theory is that the conflagration occurred after a lit cigarette was ignored, although investigations are continuing to check for other possible explanations.
