    Breaking bad news

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 27/01/2017

» Now that 2016 is finally over, we can rest assured that all the bull**** and f**kery it brought with it will never be repeated. Right? RIGHT?! Bleh, who knows what the future has in store for us. Let's face it, this time last year the thought of Trump becoming the 45th President of the United States probably made you spit out your coffee or, if you're a hipster, choke on your kale juice. But then again, never say never, right?

    Extreme new year pep talk

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 30/12/2016

» What does a new year bring, if not hope and the prospect of starting over with a clean slate? Especially when 2016 was such a mess. And no, we're not just talking about America electing a racist and sexist narcissist for a president.

    Welcome back to school

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 13/05/2016

» With Trump setting his sights on building a gigantic wall across the US border to keep out illegal immigrants, Clinton fighting to be the first female president and Cameron scratching his head over the Brexit biscuit, what is currently on our leader's mind, you might ask? Why, setting up a re-education camp for frequent government critics, of course.

    Art on a plate

» If you're guilty of binge watching Chef's Table on Netflix or you like to indulge yourselves in watching food-related documentaries, shows and films, then perhaps we can all agree that food on screen looks seriously appetising. If you've watched Jiro Dreams of Sushi, The Great British Bake Off or that god-awful attempt from Bradley Cooper to play a badass chef in Burnt, then you'll understand.

    The spaces between us

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 07/04/2017

» No doubt, Bangkok has its fair share of issues that hover over the urban landscape. From developers chasing out communities to make way for even more condominiums to the lack of greenery -- and don't get us started on the state of footpaths and the Jackson Pollock-inspired electrical wires we have proudly exhibiting all around town -- there's clearly a lot for our eyes to take in.

    Moly says Moo

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 20/01/2017

» Dainty-looking gourmet pies probably come to mind when you mention the name "Holy Moly". And although we love their savoury and sweet offerings that are neatly packaged in delicious puff pastries, our recent visit to their new stall in Siam Paragon had us drooling over a new (albeit surprising) range of treats.

    The making of a soi

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 09/12/2016

» 2016 has been full of ups and downs, highs and lows. It has, without a doubt, been an interesting year to say the least. So we can't help but wonder what 2017 has in store for us. Will Trump stick to his policies? Who knows. Will there be another car-related Thai hi-so drama for the public to scrutinise? Most likely. What is certain for Bangkokians though, is that our city will continue to change its landscape. Sadly, we think it may be for the worse, seeing as the new Bangkok governor's agenda includes projects to remove street vendors from Silom, Siam Square and Pratunam.

    Mum's not the word

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 23/12/2016

» They say the eyes eat before the stomach. That's probably true, seeing as you most likely wouldn't feel the urge to tuck into something that looks like it's been spat out of a horses' mouth. Food that look great on camera have the ability to draw in hordes of people to try it out, even when it's the most mundane of things - like pad thai or a croissant.

    Truth tags

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 24/06/2016

» Bangkok isn’t perfect. It’s ridden with countless flaws and things that don’t actually make any sense. Like the building of more condominiums when there’s no demand for them or constructing a flyover bridge with a concrete pole right in the middle of it. Heck, half the city is probably one giant health and safety hazard waiting to collapse to make the front page news. But hey, it’s home.
