River Kwai Fair

» The annual River Kwai Bridge and Red Cross Fair runs until Dec 7 at the River Kwai Bridge and Klib Bua Field in Muang district, Kanchanaburi. The event is held under the concept of "70 Years Of Peace in Kanchanaburi". A highlight is a light and sound show depicting the history of the bridge and the "Death Railway", which were constructed by POWs during World War II. Also, there are the Provincial Red Cross Council's shops, government agencies and public enterprises' exhibitions, concerts by famous singers and bands, a mini motor show and amusement park.

» Inspired by its founder's faith in dhamma and passion for art, the Yodchai Meksuwan Museum of Art in Nakhon Pathom's Nakhon Chaisi district is the brainchild of veteran actor and artist Yodchai Meksuwan. It showcases hundreds of his art pieces -- bronze and wax sculptures and abstract paintings -- as well as posters of his movies.

Little puppet master

» Last month, hundreds of people were enjoying the traditional southern Thai shadow puppet performance known as nang talung. At a show at Ratchadamnoen Contemporary Art Centre in Bangkok, they were mesmerised by the puppeteering, singing and dubbing skills of Thailand's youngest nang talung performer, Sakon Suwannakhot. This nine-year-old boy from Phra Phrom, Nakhon Si Thammarat, started practising the art at the age of seven. Today, he is the puppet master of a seven-member troupe under the Talung Dharma Youth Project of Wat Phra Phrom.
