    SURFSKATE'S UP!

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 12/03/2021

» If you have no idea what surfskating is, I don't blame you. I didn't really know much about it until I did this story, but there's a good chance you've seen someone riding it or carrying it around the city. These boards, which are shaped slightly different from skateboards, may perhaps be brushed off by a noob like me as a different form of skateboard but there's a little more to it than that. Whatever the case, the surfskate craze has for some reason descended upon the Land of Smiles and has tickled almost everyone's fancy. If you're someone who's looking to get into it or just someone who wants to figure out what the heck is going on, read on. Perhaps by the end of this, you'll find yourself wanting to surfskate yourself.

    The (space) danger zone

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 06/11/2020

» Seeing X-Wings and Tie Fighters dogfight is something to behold but being in the cockpit itself is an entirely different thing. This is what Star Wars: Squadrons lets players experience. The game promises players the thrilling experience of being a pilot on both sides of the battle and for the most part, it delivers.

    Ready, set, game

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 11/09/2020

» Streaming and e-sports are big nowadays but gaming has been around for years. You've got boardgames, which evolved into something a little more complicated like Dungeons & Dragons. You've got your arcades, which then became consoles and handhelds. Now we have PC gaming that's continuously being pushed to the limit. Like that time Polish hardware retailer x-kom made Doom Eternal run at 1,000 fps by pouring liquid nitrogen into the computer. Even if you just play on your phone during your commute, that pretty much makes you a gamer of sorts. Whether you're just a casual gamer or you live and breathe games, these places in and around the city are gaming havens that are worth a visit. You've got your classic arcade place, which is rare to find in Bangkok, a shop that sells classic games and consoles, and a legit e-sports studio to hone your skills by yourself or with your e-sports team. Buckle up, it's time to game.

    Around the clock

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 04/10/2019

» Imagine this scenario: it's late at night -- really late at night. It's so late that even the street food vendors have gone to bed. You're not sleepy. In fact, you actually don't want to sleep.

    The breakfast club

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 07/06/2019

» You've heard it countless times: breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But most of us are content with having Mama noodles or a simple congee to start the day. Hey, I don't blame you. Some of us don't have the time or if you're like me, we just love our bed too much to wake up early. But here's a question: who said breakfast had to be limited to mornings? It's a bit confusing to think about it because if you have breakfast during lunch or dinner, doesn't that just make it lunch or dinner? Don't overthink it, you get what I mean. Eggs, pancakes, coffee and other breakfast dishes are great anytime of the day. Fortunately for us Bangkokians, there's a number of places all around the city serving up great brekkies. Slather on that maple syrup, dig into those waffles and chug down that coffee. It's breakfast time, people.

    A summer of fun

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 05/04/2019

» Summer is here -- like that's not at all obvious. As the heat bears down on all of us Bangkokians, the temptation to simply spend these hellish days locked up in our rooms with the AC turned high (or is it low? You get what I mean) while we cuddle in our blankets and binge hours and hours on end of Netflix shows is strong. But that doesn't have to be the case. There's still a bunch of enjoyable things to do around the city despite the heat. In fact, they're not only fun, but they're perfect things to during the summer time. So stop being a lazy bum, get off that couch and outta the house, and don't worry, you can still have your ice cream. Here's a few summer activities to get you up and going during this heatwave.

    Summer checklist

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 06/04/2018

» The blistering heat and scorching sun has made it evident that summer is upon us. The bad news is that it's likely to get hotter from here on. The good news is that the city is going to be an all-out water war zone in a few weeks. Aside from that, there are plenty of things to do during this summer. But if you're scatterbrained like us, can't organise yourself and will probably end up lounging on the couch eating a tub of ice cream (which is not a bad idea, actually), you can stop fretting. We've compiled a summer to-do list for you.
