I suggested putting the money in a bank account in her name to be used for medecine etc. To be honest any Thai women I have met seems very concentrated on money. These women discuss the ammounts of money they get from farangs like a pastime. thai divorce and property law

» I'm a U.S. citizen and married to a thai guy in U.S., he has nothing in U.S. but business ownership, land and bank accounts in thailand. our baby is going to be U.S. citizen, i want to know, is it true by law that he told me that i cannot co-own any business, land or bank account of his? what can...

    • Anonymous commented : wn the land and my partner is dead then. If we both die, can we have written the will so that even a foreigner can be part of sharing the money from a sale of the property my thai partner owned. Can a land lease of some kind help us here, if I lease the land from him on a long term contract and that way be protected? Can anyone explain how this works out in practise if he die? When land lease finish, the land must be sold? What if we don't die but split up one day? Can we have a joint ownership of the house that is on the land, or a contract written between us that clearly states that the property (or even land?) must be sold and the money shared equal? Would a land lease help us here? We will of course have legal help for any of this but this is in a very early stage and we are investigating if it is at all possible. Thanks for any advice.

» I dont understand why Thailand is not using the sun which is there 365 days/year. Can anybody tell me ? I am in the process of building a house but when it comes to solar energy i might have to import myself to only then be confronted with a high import tax on such products. And that while closing...

The fact of dowry in traditional marriage

By Anonymous, Created on: 21/05/2006, Last updated on: 21/10/2007

» I want to set the record straight about the dowry in Thai traditional wedding ceremony. There are so many talks in this forum regarding the dowry that I found it very disturbing and I want to correct the attitude of those who believe that paying dowry is to pay the price for having Thai wife. By...

It is not that Thais always try to rip off the farag but rather, Thais do not understand at all the differences in culture. As farang do not really understand when first coming here. I have had to adapt and it has not been easy. But I love this country, the people and the overall goodness of intentions that hold sway. I never frequent bars or discos and live a pretty normal life. My wife worked hard in a factory for 12 years where she worked her way up to supervisor level. We try to understand each others differences but in the end, it is the fewer similarities that help hold us together. Where there's a will, there can be a way.

» So next time you go to Thailand for an holiday or medical care give the Thai people the respect they deserve. Because the nurses or the Hotel staff are mostly much under payed and their home situation is many times not so brilliant. Deal with a genuine courtesy, politeness and respect, and not in...

    • jginnane commented : I would have been (probably) dead by now. It would be unfair of me to suggest that they wouldnt have picked up the spread of cancer before the operation (it was also in the lymph nodes), but what was clear was that the doctor in question was not up with latest research. Not only do they now fully remove the lung (rather than the cancer), but they also advise patients to undertake chemo prior to surgery. Latest results (albeit not conclusive)suggest a reoccurence rate 6 times earlier when surgery is the first step.
