Upcoming events and the best images on iPhones

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 13/07/2016

» In a couple of weeks, Apple will announce its third-quarter results for 2016. The conference call is scheduled for July 26, at 2pm Pacific Time, which is around 5am here. This is expected to be a poorer quarter, but so was the last one, and Apple still had a US$10 billion profit.

    AppleTV, Movies and Recent News

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 20/07/2016

» Saturday was livened up by an attempted coup in Turkey. While there are restrictions in place for social media use there, President Erdogan was still able to show viewers he was alive by calling in to a TV station using FaceTime on an iPhone. I am not sure quite what to think of that.

Looking forward to WWDC in June

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 18/05/2016

» To read some of the press in the last few days, one would think that Apple is about to go bust. Again. Display rumours were exciting; a new iPhone shape was expected. Now Nikkei claims that the iPhone 7 will not have enough that is new, so Apple will die or something. That caused another drop in Apple shares, which may be the point: what goes down, will go up; then look at all the profits.

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 15/06/2016

» This week, I attended Apple's 2016 World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco. There are few changes to the operating systems, but consolidation and many improvements for better user experience and device integration.

    Apple's dip: What comes next?

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 04/05/2016

» Everyone knew Apple was going to have a not-so-good quarter, except perhaps Wall Street, which reacted in the only way Wall Street knows how: hitting Apple's share price and claiming that Apple is doomed (again). Some also called for the head of Tim Cook.

Music and photo adjustment apps on iOS devices

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 27/01/2016

» A few hours ago, on Jan 26 (Wednesday morning here) Apple released its Q1 2016 financial report. Analyst opinion has been split, particularly on iPhone sales speculation: some say down, some say up. With figures from China and India already looking promising, those who always vote for a doomed Apple may be wrong again.

Contain yourself, the new iPhone is here

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 04/11/2015

» Apple made a lot of money last quarter and is on for a record year. Those predicting lower sales in China were utterly wrong. Wall Street is ringing its hands because (they say) this sort of growth cannot be sustained and Apple will fail. I guess eventually, the Sun will stop shining too, but not yet. Predictions are usually pinned on share price and growth; but Apple's products, and profits, are better indicators.

    Apple keeps getting better

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 16/09/2015

» Today sees the release of iOS 9 and the update to Watch OS, both announced at Apple's event last week in San Francisco when several products were announced. The next OS X update, El Capitan, will be available on Sept 30. There were also indications of a more pragmatic approach, especially with adjusted relationships with competitors.

Apple makes buying online -- in English -- harder

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 07/10/2015

» Last Wednesday, not only was there the expected update to OS X, with El Capitan, but version 9.0.2 of iOS 9 was also released and my iOS devices were updated quickly. The first download of El Capitan for my MacBook Pro failed and I had to start again. I also downloaded an update for the MacBook. I left the downloads running and when I came back from lunch, they were ready to roll. I installed the new OS X on two machines at the same time and both were good.

New editing possibilities in photos on Macs

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 14/10/2015

» Now that OS X has been updated to El Capitan (version 10.11) I have been indulging myself with the new extensions for Photos that I mentioned last week. This means expanding the functions of the operating system or applications that were used on Mac OS -- before OS X. I already have a number of extensions, most are from Apple, but a few have arrived from third party sources. These are all shown in System Preferences -- Extensions, in the following panels available: All, Actions, Finder, Photos, Share Menu and Today.
