    Eating Amid The Great Outdoors

B Magazine, Suthon Sukphisit, Published on 17/12/2017

» I may not have to explain how much fun it is to picnic. When asking family members or your loved ones to go on a picnic, chances are everybody would say yes. Organising a picnic trip requires finding (sometimes booking) a scenic spot and preparing food and drinks for your outdoor dining. This might be a little extra work, but it's worth it.

Wat's the centre of Mon tradition

B Magazine, Suthon Sukphisit, Published on 10/04/2016

» There are only three days left until Songkran, a festival that is celebrated throughout Thailand, but that is especially significant for the Mon community. The special importance it has for the Mon may have to do with the strictness of their Buddhist belief and the firmness with which they have maintained their cultural traditions. When Songkran arrives they celebrate it in a way that preserves the original character and meaning of the festival, creating an event that we can admire or, better, take part in.

    A fond foodie farewell

B Magazine, Suthon Sukphisit, Published on 01/06/2014

» Last week was Satun, this week we’re off to Trang, the final stage of my tour of the South. This province isn’t one of the top tourist destinations like Krabi, Phangnga or Phuket, but it is ideal for those who prefer a quiet spot with beautiful beaches without mobs of tourists swarming around, a place where they can spend time looking at interesting local attractions and finding good things to eat.

    A taste of the north

B Magazine, Suthon Sukphisit, Published on 13/10/2013

» Many things attract tourists to Chiang Mai. There are its natural beauties and ancient historical sites, streetside vendors selling handicrafts and, an especially alluring feature for many visitors, restaurants offering all kinds of food. The chance to taste such an array of tasty dishes, some of them unavailable elsewhere, make a visit to Chiang Mai especially worthwhile from the food standpoint alone.

B Magazine, Suthon Sukphisit, Published on 09/06/2013

» Suppose you want to get out of town for the day with a plan that includes a meal at an ordinary restaurant, nothing fancy, but with good food at reasonable prices. Also on the list of wants is the opportunity to enjoy a pleasant rural atmosphere, and perhaps a chance to see ancient sites and check out local arts and handicrafts. One destination that checks all of those boxes is Pathum Thani.

'Pla Ra': Don't follow your nose

B Magazine, Suthon Sukphisit, Published on 30/06/2013

» Three things that are absolutely essential to Thai cooking are kapi, nam pla and pla ra. Without them Thai food would be as insipid as dishwater. And Thailand isn't the only country whose cuisine depends on them. The cooking of Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam couldn't exist without them either. Each of these countries keeps improving the quality of their kapi, nam pla and pla ra in their efforts to get their versions respected as the best of all. The Central region is not the only area where pla ra is eaten. It is part of the daily diet of practically every person in every household in Isan. One of the simplest ways to eat it is just to dip some sticky rice into pla ra and follow it with some chillies. For other meals, when different kinds of food are eaten, every dish, every sauce, every nam prik will contain it.

    The pleasures of phetchaburi

B Magazine, Suthon Sukphisit, Published on 15/07/2012

» For most people, the mention of Thailand's Central Region brings to mind the provinces of Ayutthaya, Ang Thong, Suphan Buri and Nakhon Sawan, all of which are relatively close to Bangkok and linked to the capital by shared history and geographical features. Phetchaburi province on the sea is often left out when talking about the Central Region, but a look at the map shows it clearly belongs.

    Restaurants Devasted by Deluge

B Magazine, Suthon Sukphisit, Published on 22/01/2012

» Nature seems to have been on the attack in Thailand recently with frequent heavy rains, mudslides burying houses and fields near mountains, powerful storms causing waves that batter coastal communities and, of course, floodwaters from the North inundating central Thailand.
