    A monster story

    Tatat Bunnag, Published on 22/11/2016

» Hitting cinemas next week is one of the year’s most anticipated fantasy drama films, A Monster Calls. Based on Patrick Ness’ bestselling novel, the movie is a coming-of-age story about a boy and his unlikely friendship with a monster. But this isn’t a light-hearted Disney-style fantasy film. A Monster Calls is a dark tale, but it’s also an inspiring one.

» Although it looks like the PM2.5 crisis has subsided in Bangkok and nearby areas, it is still predicted that a slight increase in air pollution will return again by the middle of this month. Hopefully, the toxic haze should dissolve around March and April. Yet areas outside Bangkok especially in such northeastern provinces as Nakhon Ratchasima and Khon Kaen are still being severely hit by the hazardous smog as of now.

» Adam Yauch, better known as MCA, the visionary rapper, musician and activist, passed away from cancer in 2012, which forced the rest of his former band members in The Beastie Boys to decide not to carry on the name without him. What happened shocked and saddened the music world. And nearly a decade since disbanding and disappearing from the spotlight, and following the successful release of Beastie Boys Book in 2018, the remaining two Beastie Boys, Michael Diamond (Mike D) and Adam Horovitz (Ad-Rock), teamed up with award-winning director Spike Jonze to share with fans the full story of their band and 40 years of friendship in this live documentary experience, Beastie Boys Story. This is a legendary story that is raw, powerful, and also very personal, but it's one that is also hilarious, entertaining and at times even emotional. Digital streaming is now available on Apple TV+.

» Thai horror films have always been a source of pride for the country. With its rich culture-driven, full-of-mythology and homegrown folklore storylines, Thai films are internationally recognised especially when it comes to tales from beyond the grave. So for the new GDH supernatural horror Ghost Lab to be the first Thai feature film to have its world premiere on Netflix is quite an appropriate choice.

    Alien threat returns

Life, Tatat Bunnag, Published on 23/07/2021

» Over the past few years, it's been amazing to see Chris Pratt's transition to a mega action star from a small role as Andy, a goofy boyfriend in the sitcom Parks And Recreation, to more sci-fi and action roles like Peter Quill/Star-Lord in The Guardians Of The Galaxy franchise, a mysterious mechanical engineer in space thriller Passengers with Jennifer Lawrence or dinosaur researcher Owen Grady in the Jurassic World franchise. Now Pratt is using his skills to play a military scientist with daddy issues who goes against time on a mission to save the world from an alien invasion in The Tomorrow War. Although lacking an original idea, with parts of the story derived from many past sci-fi hits, The Tomorrow War is still an enjoyable action-adventure with adrenaline-fuelled chase sequences.
