Snitching on schnitzel's

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 02/12/2016

» The setting: Alright, alright, we know what you were thinking when you saw the name. But no, this most definitely is not a German restaurant. And yes, although they do serve up pork schnitzel and sauerkraut, other delicacies like pork knuckle and stollen cakes are not on the menu. Located at the quiet end of Soi 38, this dainty and unassuming restaurant could have been mistaken for a small coffee shop. Step inside and the rustic décor -- with bare brick walls, a vintage collection of bric-a-bracs and collectibles from the owner's previous residence in the USA make up a warm, casual and inviting diner perfect for those days when you have a hankering for American-style comfort food.

» The allure of Chiang Mai draws all types of nature-seekers to the north of Thailand. The mountainous region offers countless opportunities to connect with Mother Earth, whether it's trekking, forest zip-lining, bathing baby elephants or, you know, simply admiring green areas larger than Bangkok's public parks.

    Use your noodle(s)

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 05/06/2015

» In Bangkok, it's sometimes hard to find the right balance of just about anything. Take Phloenchit's culinary scene, for example. It's either glitzy malls or dodgy street stalls, with hardly anything in between. That's where Wuanood swoops in, rescuing busy office workers looking for a belly-filling meal that won't cost an arm and a leg (or cause a wicked bout of food poisoning). It's also easy to locate, set in the Mahatun Plaza compound, which is already a big hit among foodies, thanks to popular Mexican joint La Monita. The cosy space is decorated with modern furniture, but manages to retain the old charm of a hawker-style noodle stall. Diners include locals and expats who work within the area, and families who are up for a big Saturday lunch.
