    Your digital photo album

Life, Boaz Zippor, Published on 03/01/2012

» In the last years I have encountered a very strange phenomenon that worries me, both as a photographer, but mainly as a researcher of human behaviour. Ok, maybe researcher of human behaviour is a bit of an overstatement, as usually I just snicker and make smart alek comments about that ridiculous game called human behaviour, but still, it is a phenomenon that should be acknowledged.

From the year of fury to the year of doom?

News, Sawai Boonma, Published on 05/01/2012

» With a 9.0 magnitude earthquake hitting Japan in March, causing vast destruction and leaving nearly 20,000 people killed or missing, 2011 should register as one of the years that the four elements _ earth, air, fire and water _ had unleashed its most destructive fury.

    UK's patronising tone

    News, Published on 07/01/2012

» I found the article ''UK-Asean relations for the 21st century'' (BP, Opinion, Jan 6) fascinating _ which is to say, very patronising. I am trying to understand the British foreign minister's statement that ''...we have a shared interest in maintaining security in a region which has some of the world's most important shipping routes... tackling common threats such as... nuclear proliferation, cyber-crime, and climate change''.

    We have funny time together!

Guru, Sumati Sivasiamphai, Published on 13/01/2012

» Given my dodgy grammar skills and occasional misspelling of my own name, you probably would never have guessed that I used to be an English teacher. That's right, before I started putting commas in all the wrong places in this esteemed magazine, I contributed to destroying our nation's language abilities, one subject-verb disagreement at a time.

» Re: ''Give our kids a better deal'' (BP, Editorial, Jan 13). As today is Children's Day, it must have been coincidental that the Bangkok Post's editorial highlighted the fact that a third of Thailand's 15 million youths are failing through the cracks.

A serious side to child's play

    News, Published on 14/01/2012

» Youngsters often complain that adults don't understand them, or that their views and opinions are rarely listened to or valued. Another pet peeve is being talked down to and denied respect. The role models they are told to look up to often turn out to be hypocrites who say one thing but do another. And the fault-finding doesn't end there. Some adults also gripe about the difficulty of interacting with the younger generation. Such intolerance is hard to understand, given that they were also young once.

» In the mid-1970s, while travelling on the slowest train in the world from Bangkok to Kanchanaburi, I recall ploughing my way through John Le Carre's spy novel Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

» Re: ''Importance of travel alerts'' (BP, June 17). I applaud this editorial, it was well-written, thought-out and right on the mark. Bravo!
