Green the way to go
Life, Karnjana Karnjanatawe, Published on 02/01/2012
» The Airports of Thailand (AoT) has announced a new policy to have greener airports. According to flight lieutenant Anirut Thanombutr, AoT's managing director, the initiative will start by planting more trees at airports it operates, including Suvarnabhumi Airport, as well as four other airports in Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Hat Yai and Phuket.

Asia's uncut ruby
Life, Published on 05/01/2012
» As travel books dispel the mystique of remote spots worldwide, places that have preserved their unique character become ever harder to find. North Korea has been notoriously isolated by its ruling dynasty. Less in the global spotlight is the luminous land of Burma, known officially as the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. It, too, has suffered greatly under a brutal regime, but while its military junta has kept the world out, it has also perfectly preserved the culture within.

All packed up and many places to go
B Magazine, Ezra Kyrill Erker, Published on 15/01/2012
» Twenty or even 10 years ago, Western budget travellers would descend on the country, spending tens of thousands of baht on flights and then, to the bemusement of Thais, proceed to travel in third-class train carriages or buses to rudimentary guest houses on the beach or upcountry that cost 40 baht a night, where they showered out of buckets and shared dormitories with strangers.

Thailand's loss is Myanmar's gain
Life, Karnjana Karnjanatawe, Published on 16/01/2012
» Every January The New York Times lists destinations around the globe worth visiting, but sadly for Thailand missing from the 2012 list are destinations here that made the cut last year _ perhaps the fallout from its worst flooding in 50 years _ while only four Southeast Asia destinations make its list of "45 Places To Go in 2012".

The Earth's Eden
Life, Published on 19/01/2012
» In 1835, British naturalist Charles Darwin arrived at the group of islands along the west coast of South America called the Galapagos after a four-year ocean voyage from Europe. Darwin was stunned to see such a miraculous place and diverse life around the islands, elements which suggest why the Galapagos Islands are often described as "the world's Eden".
