    family visa

By Anonymous, Created on: 02/01/2004, Last updated on: 12/09/2006

» When the Thai government will allow foreigners with Thai spouse and children to own a one year visa without the need to travel out of the country every 3 month or to show 800 thousands bahts in a bank account, this is very unfair and even most of the Thais don't earn this sum per year, why this discrimination...

    • Anonymous commented : ey are in the gutter, western banking system like in Europe should continue to have banking secrecy and no question ask policy. Yes, Thailand has problems. We can fix our problems if we have our own way to do so, but Thais are not in control of our own country and government. Do you think Thaksin is 100% working in the benefit for Thais and Thai culture? You can take a look at him again to be sure!?

    • Anonymous commented : ho held high position in Thai banking system, Saxana or Saksana. He and other foreign and local corruptors put us under IMF and the indigenous Thais suffered the most. I would recommend to any foreigners to study Thai history , social and economy before making ignorant comments and arguments. Because these people do sounded like those white South Africans, cry baby. Thailand has not go through serious jackboot crackdown to clean up corruption and impounding all the illegal gains. AMLO is still does not have the real teeth and acting like they are working for certain political interests and catching mostly the little fishes.

Do You Support Your Thai In-Laws?

By Anonymous, Created on: 02/03/2006, Last updated on: 14/02/2007

» In Thailand, children take care of their parents. They kind of pay back the debt that they contracted just by being born and educated by their parents. And contrary to "popular" belief, it is valid whether you are rich or poor (but of course far more meaningful if the parents are poor...)....

    • Anonymous commented : or permanent resident and for banking and government mailing address. You need to transfer your money to well known international bank like Chase or some other US banks with branch in Thailand. You will need to ask for your social security check to be direct deposited to this US bank saving account. You will only need an ATM card to withdraw money from this account at any ATM machines in Thailand. You need another Thai Bank separate saving account and ATM card; this account should be as Thai citizen using your Thai ID card. You will need US passport for travel in and out of USA. It is a downside since it means that you have to get Thai residency visa that could be renew in Thailand or at Thai Consulate in USA. If you do not wish to return to USA at all, you can use Thai Passport to enter Thailand so you would not have to get Thai residency visa. US passport only allowed you to stay in Thailand for 30 days without visa. However, renewal is no problem thru travel agency or at immigration for small fee. I think you can get up to 2 years residency visa before renew again for Thai bornt. My parents are old and does not want to travel to USA again so they entered Thailand as Thai citizens. All of their financial matters are bring handled by my sisters in USA. They initially traveled every 2 to 3 years between Thailand and USA. After awhile, they settled down and stop travel. They knew more people now like old friends and families to do things together in Thailand.

Changes and Effects of Foreign Business Act

By Anonymous, Created on: 10/02/2007, Last updated on: 27/01/2015

» The purpose of this act since 1970s, is though no one clarify openly, to protect local industry against the foreign market invasion. Therefore FBA is in fact Domestic Industry Protection Act. Since 1990s of open door policy, Thailand had promoted vigorously FDI - foreign direct investment of almost...

    • BrookeMan commented : up include those involved in banking and insurance, as they have already have their own specific laws. In addition, the department has found that seven firms involved in tourism and hospitality businesses controlled by the FBA have likely breached the law by having a nominee, through which foreign owners employ a Thai to hold a majority share in the firm. The department is preparing to file the case with the Department of Special Investigation. The seven firms suspected of breaching the FBA are in tourism, restaurants, tour agencies, and property management. Most are in tourist-destination provinces, including Chon Buri, Chiang Mai, Trat and Phuket. Meanwhile, the number of newly registered companies in Thailand dropped by 18 per cent in the first eight months year on year, partly because of controls on the retail prices for the government lottery. In August alone, number of new firms dropped by 18 per cent to 5,204. Last month, 11 new lottery firms registered, compared with 317 in August last year. However, the department foresees stronger business expansion in the remaining months, averaging about 5,000 new companies per month. As a result, Thailand should end the year with about 60,000 to 65,000 new company registrations. In the first eight months, the number of business shutdowns rose 7 per cent year on year to 8,563. Last month, 1,236 firms closed down.

    Trend of economy in Thailand

    • 4amExpat commented : nvesting. Most of the Western banking system has seen the effects of this, there is not reason to suspect Thailand won't as well. 2. The condo boom and auto sales in Thailand have happened for the same reason they boomed in the West: Ease of credit. As it becomes less easy, less cars, condos and product will be sold. 3. Taksin was good for the economy, where as the political uncertainty of the coming administration may not be.

Farang and their seemingly paradoxical ways

By Mr. Surin Province, Created on: 17/10/2008, Last updated on: 17/04/2010

» As a long-historied Farang resident myself, comfortable and understanding, I have to ask the age old question regarding Westerners that find it necessary to stay/live here while finding life so objectionable in many ways. Why is this so? I've experienced this throughout Asia {in particular the LOS}...

    • mele.nani commented : ructures and laws that govern banking institutions were changed. These decisions were Bush administration decisions just as the war in Iraq and the arrogance that brought him to land on an aircraft carrier to say "Mission Accomplished" was his decision. Obama has inherited probably the largest list of problems and challenges of any previous presidency. George Bush, Dick Cheney, and Don Rumsfeld were a disastrous combination. They have brought down the US economy and our standing in world politics. Their actions have resulted in the loss of many thousands of people in Afghanistan and Iraq. The US soldiers who died have been counted and mourned. What about the families that were bombed and killed? What about the common people that were displaced? The behavior of the Bush administration was self serving, arrogant and shameful. America and the world is going to suffer long term for decisions they have made. The financial crisis is just beginning. It will unfold as an international disaster. You will see more downturn of banks, business, and employment globally because of things that were initiated under the Bush administration. This is my opinion as an American citizen and not the forum which provides us the venue for discussion. In Hawaii we say "malama pono" nurture that which is righteous.

Baht too strong - urgently needs freedom to float

By oldexplorer, Created on: 12/03/2009, Last updated on: 04/11/2015

» As the massive Chinese economy begins a freefall descent in response to the Western financial collapse, the Abhisit government needs to assist Thai exports by allowing the Baht to float downwards. Keeping the Baht slavishly locked to the US Dollar is short-sighted, and will simply make Thai exports...

    • Ian commented : me angry Talking of online banking I have discovered something interesting. My original deposit account was called "Reward Reserve", this had a garanteed fixed interest rate. Now for several years the manager has been telling me this is a poor rate and I should transfer to one of their new schemes. But I was too lazy to fill in the forms. Now all these new schemes have dropped to almost zero interest, but not my Reward Reserve, it was a contract between the bank and me. Scy, I would be unhappy to see the GBP join the Euro at parity, but I don't think this will happen. When East Germany reunited with West, the Mark shouldered a heavy debt and suffered because of it. At the moment I do not think the Euro has fully factored in the collapse of the Eastern European countries. The Baht is currently blatantly being manipulated, I think in a cynical manner. My feelings are that there are a few very rich people in Thailand who have more power than the BOT. I suspect that they are ordering the BOT not to devalue the Baht as this will devalue their wealth. The fact that the workforce suffer as a result I do not think bothers them. I think their dilemma is they cannot find a safe currency to move their funds to so stick with the Baht which they control.

    • punter commented : or secret swaps required. The banking system is easy and you get a ten year visa without any of the hassle of Thailand. Thai lands crime rates are thousands of percentage points higher than Malaysia. The beaches are far less crowded. The quality of the goods sold in the market is better and there is no double pricing. Most people speak English. No one has ever fudged my utility bills or tried to charge me extra for anything. They respect you in Malaysia. People generally have more self respect than do the Thai's and it shows in their friendly demeanour. Not like in Thailand where you are instantly the 'enemy falang'. Thailand has deteriorated to the point where it is not even worth visiting.

    • GerBo commented : with a good working internet-banking program, which is also a lack with Thai banks. Internet-banking here is nothing. U can only transfer money to the organisations they put in the system already. Very advanced?? Land of smile is for me already years Land of Fake. I know not very polite and nice, but see for urself. Laws get changed within 1 hour, mostly they smile only in holiday-resorts and hotels, cuz.... yes, they can earn money... and furthermore enjoy Thailand, let them fight with each other (red-yellow), let them push each other from the road (traffic without any law) etc etc. I laugh every day when I see how they live and what kind of respect they have for others property (read cars etc.) I write already in a earlier stage that when I really invest after our pension (me and my spouse) we both say goodbye to Thailand and will live in Malaysia, which we visit regularly on the search for a nice house. Cuz it's so damn easy for us to buy there and have it on my name or both names. Legaly so good arranged as well, so for us it's no big deal this Thailand. We have a house but will sell it after we reach our pension.
