A global meeting for music buffs

» The 45th International Council for Traditional Music (ICTM) was held at Chulalongkorn University earlier this month. The premier global meeting for ethnomusicologists was held in Southeast Asia for the first time in its history. As the secretary-general of the ICTM Prof Ursuka Hemetek said: "This is a special occasion for us to be in Southeast Asia for the first time."

» Greetings from Nakhon Pathom. This week your favourite columnist finds himself in a hotel room for five days in this little town just west of Bangkok. "Little town" is hardly a good description, though it was certainly that way when I first visited here a quarter of a century ago. Bangkok has since extended her tentacles, swallowing up the likes of Samut Prakan, Nonthaburi and Minburi.
