    Into the future

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 27/08/2021

» Here's something to rattle your brain: we're now past the halfway point of 2021. It's hard to count days when we find ourselves stuck indoors on an endless loop of never-ending Covid cases, a government that denies reality and protests from people who are fed up and tired of all the crap happening around them.

    The year ahead

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 01/01/2021

» 2021 is finally here and we can finally put "The Year That Must Not Be Named" behind us! Though we're not entirely out of the woods yet, the fact remains that a new year means we can turn a new leaf and look forward to the things yet to come this year. Here is a list of things that are in store for us, which hopefully -- fingers crossed -- may actually take place this year.

    Winter wonderlands

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 20/11/2020

» If you haven't noticed, there's only a little over a month left for 2020 to end. This also means cooler weather all over the country and along with that comes a slew of festivals making good use of the cool breeze that makes walking outside more delightful and less of a workout. A number of these events take place outside the city, which means even cooler temperatures and breezes accompanied by fantastic views of nature. These events are a great way to enjoy the "winter season" and serve as a reminder that we've made it through 2020 so we've all earned ourselves a bit of time to enjoy what these festivals have to offer.

    Holiday in the sun

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 19/06/2020

» Welcome to Phase 4! No, I'm not talking about the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase 4, which hasn't kicked off yet because Black Widow is postponed to November. I'm talking about the easing of restrictions nationwide as the country goes back to "normal". Monday saw the lifting of curfew so we can finally go back to staying out late and sneaking back home, as well as the lifting of the ban on sales of certain refreshments in restaurants. It also means the reopening of a number of places and attractions all around the country, and if you're like me, you've been itching to get out of Bangkok, head to the beach for some vitamin sea or go on a road trip with your pals. This week, Guru's got a list of places you can visit on your post-quarantine domestic travel.

    App-solutely smooth

» We at Guru know we're snarky about Bangkok at times -- OK, most of the time -- but like any other city, there are things we hate about it and there are things we love about it.

    Don't rain on my parade

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 19/07/2019

» The rainy season is in full swing and downpours are becoming more and more common, so us Bangkokians are either being rained upon or being beaten down by heat, so yay! While the rain (or the heat) tempts us all to lock ourselves up at home, that doesn't have to be the case. Rainy days don't necessarily mean bingeing Netflix shows (nothing bad about that though, you do you). But if you're getting a little bit of cabin fever and think that the pesky rain is keeping you from fun and entertaining stuff, think again. Guru has listed a number of indoor activities during the monsoons.

    A summer of fun

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 05/04/2019

» Summer is here -- like that's not at all obvious. As the heat bears down on all of us Bangkokians, the temptation to simply spend these hellish days locked up in our rooms with the AC turned high (or is it low? You get what I mean) while we cuddle in our blankets and binge hours and hours on end of Netflix shows is strong. But that doesn't have to be the case. There's still a bunch of enjoyable things to do around the city despite the heat. In fact, they're not only fun, but they're perfect things to during the summer time. So stop being a lazy bum, get off that couch and outta the house, and don't worry, you can still have your ice cream. Here's a few summer activities to get you up and going during this heatwave.

Case in point: all these thing left to look forward to as we draw nearer and nearer to the end of the year. Here are our picks.

    Lesser known celebrations

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 22/09/2017

» Did you know that there's a nationwide celebration coming up soon? Thai National Flag Day is to be celebrated this coming September 28. If you weren't aware of that, we don't blame you. This is the first time Thailand is going to be celebrating it to commemorate 100 years since King Rama VI declared the design we know today as the country's official flag. Sure, it might not be a legit holiday, but hey, it's all about being patriotic.
