» It's going to be a while before we find out whether or not the easing of coronavirus lockdown measures, the mass scrambles for alcoholic beverages, and the exodus over the recent long weekend will reverse the trend of the pandemic control in Thailand that seems to be going well. Let's hope they won't. At the same time, let's not forget that in many parts of this small world, the Covid-19 situation is still not getting any better.

» Cyclists in Bangkok and Samut Prakan are lucky to have such nice places to enjoy their favourite sport, those famous bicycle lanes around Suvarnabhumi airport. But wouldn't it be even better if there were another purpose-built training ground that is not so flat? How about a bikes-only road on hilly terrain?

» Chon Buri's coastal district of Sattahip boasts many mountain bike trails built and maintained by local cross-country riders, many of whom are officers and servicemen in the Royal Thai Navy. Sure enough, these tough guys don't go for tame tracks. And this one here is considered by many of them as the most challenging.

» Mountain bikers in Chon Buri and Rayong are definitely among the happiest cyclists in Thailand. With the many single tracks available in the two eastern provinces, bikers there do not have to ride the same trails every week, as is often the case in other parts of the country.

Navy track 'Ko Ro' provides a new challenge

» Last week I told you about Fly Navy in U-tapao Naval Air Base, the latest addition to Rayong's several purpose-built mountain bike tracks. Today let's go a few kilometres further west to the Sattahip district of the adjacent Chon Buri province to check out another of the navy's new MTB training grounds, the Ko Ro trail.
