» im an australian with a thai girlfriend , what i want to know is this. is it reasonable for a westerner to be sending 30000 baht each month for taking care of a girls costs in thai , while she is living on temporary basis with me in australia. do your banks allow people to run up large debts like...

    • Anonymous commented : hang on a sec here...in 15 months oyu have sent over 1 million baht to take care of a child??? In Thailand??? well, if you are independently wealthy and your gf was too before you met I guess the little girl is going to the best schools and eating the best foods and wearing the best clothes. If not, you should know a hard, experienced worker's family will survove on about 10% of that year. The whole family. If the money spent doesn't bother you, and you see it is being spent well, the call is yours. If not, I would sit down and have a serious discussion with your gf. BTW in general Thais aren't very "budget" minded but you can, through perseveranceand patience and some insistence probably get some numbers to work with from your gf. Good luck!!!

» Hi to all, Over the past few years I have read many of the posts offering excellent and sensible advice. This was without realising one day I may appreciate advice myself. I will be entirely honest in the details that follow. I agree with a previous respected poster who talked of 'moulding'...

Let things play out as it seems they have come to cross roads. the decision she makes now will pretty much show the intentions. I suggest that we hold off for now and see how things go from here before we judge the lady. rgds sardines

    • ohm commented : The "Spectrum" section of the newspaper has for the last few months been running weekly articles from a law firm regarding these matters. Can probably do an on-line search or Bangkok Post search to find them. I see one here: http://www.bangkokpost.com/advance-sear ... _sec_id=14

» Some of the private hospitals in Bangkok might be a good choice depending on what it is that one is seeking advice/treatment on. My wife and I are expecting twins. » I live now exactly 2 years in Thailand with my Thai spouse and see the following things in this 'Land of Smile' to foreigners. I see it sometimes more as discrimination of foreigners in this country. 1. VISA-paper work to overreacting and very unfriendly; 2. Very tough to open a initial savingsaccount...

    Some programs everyone should have

Database, James Hein, Published on 12/05/2010

» There are some programs that everyone should have on their computer because eventually you are going to need one or more of them. If you use the Internet and download files then the different types will need to be handled, opened, viewed or played. Everyone has their list of favourites. I have seen lists that include products like iTunes and McAfee that I would never allow on any computer of mine.

    Absolutely no collusion

    Database, Published on 08/09/2010

» In a huge, shock surprise, the three biggest yuppiephone companies were the only survivors in the pre-bid qualification for the country's first three third-generation (3G) mobile phone licences; in the biggest anti-climax since the failure of the national team to reach the World Cup, Advanced Info Service, Dtac and True Move strode into the offices of the National Telecommunications Commission, plunked down 1.28 billion baht for the right to bid at the auction on Sept 20, and strode out; of course there was absolutely no collusion in any of this, that would be against the law; the only wrinkle is that the bottom bidder in the auction will have to wait a few months to get its licence, because you have to keep up appearances that there's actually a competition under way.
