It's not all about the pancakes

» The setting: Get used to knowing what Siam Paragon's North Zone refers to because that's where many new and exciting restaurants have been popping up, one of them of course being the famous Clinton Street Baking Company. The Bangkok branch may not be located in ideal surroundings, compared to the original standalone in Lower East Side New York, but efforts to emulate the vibes as close as possible are commendable. The diner is open before the mall, at 8am, same as the New York one. There's direct access via the cobblestone road between Siam Kempinski and Siam Paragon, so you can avoid stepping foot in the mall altogether. The red diner couches are there and so is the iconic red ridged storefront. Even the table setting, complete with a bottle of Tabasco, seems to be doing something purposely to make us feel nostalgic for US diners.

» There's one food that no one ever needed to learn to love, and that's pizza. The universal appreciation for pizzas means that every once in a while duty calls for us to sacrifice our hard earned bikini bods to try all the new pizzerias in town. So appreciate these findings from our piggish pilgrimage. We've got everything from the highly competitive to harmlessly light-hearted. Enjoy and follow our footsteps, with caution.

    August All Year Round

» The setting: A healthy new diner has opened up inside Chidlom's blinding red community mall. Located on Mercury Ville's third floor, August Organic Eatery occupies a corner spot facing Ploenchit Road, which entitles it to a capacious dining space and stunning view of -- Central Chidlom. The entrance is a little cramped, covered in distracting credit card promotion signs during our visit, but past that, the atmosphere made it convincing to stay. White walls are tattooed with hand-painted murals of veggies and also accessorised with bronze-lettered statements. From high tables to plush blue sofas, the choices of seating are as bountiful as the eight month and accommodating enough for a bustling weekday's crowd.

    Delicately Thai

Guru, Mika Apichatsakol, Published on 14/10/2016

» Growing up in Thailand, I was never really fond of our traditional desserts. The combination of coconut and undisguised sugar -- cornerstones of Thai confection -- always hit me like a note too sharp for my bass range of creamy, chocolaty sweets. Why I wanted to give Wanlamun a try, nonetheless, is knowing that it comes from the same patissier behind the short-lived but sensational Let Them Eat Cake, the closure of which we are still crying over.

    Boteya's got soul

Guru, Mika Apichatsakol, Published on 11/03/2016

» The quiet end of CentralWorld is making a comeback, with the renovation of Isetan's supermarket and the opening of a few new Japanese chains such as Boteya. Located right outside Isetan on the mall's third floor, this ready-to-eat teppan restaurant is quite secluded from the main hub of eateries at CentralWorld, but nevertheless catches your eye with its edgy, dark interior. As a stylish yet commercial diner, the layout is refreshingly simple. Through the large, open front, you can see that there are just two neat rows of tables leading to an open kitchen in back. No dividers, no mirror illusions or cheesy symbols of Japan --just clean, chic and modern simplicity.

    Bond voyage

» When James Bond isn't flirting with death while trying to kill his nemesis, he's somewhere exotic, basking in the fresh air, soaking in crystalline waters, seducing beautiful woman, and, of course, sipping a vodka martini, shaken not stirred.

    Third cup's the charm

Guru, Mika Apichatsakol, Published on 23/10/2015

» Away from all the brunch buzz on Sukhumvit, Not Just Another Cup is a new spot encouraging Sathon locals to enjoy their midday meal a bit more than usual. It's the third eatery from the owner of Buttercup and Tiny Cup, but it's out to prove that it's not just a recycled concept of its older siblings.
